Hydrosapalinx and Essure
meghspd Thats very encouraging beth156 and Ingrid . Many Congratulations to you Ingrid ...happy parenting its good to know that essure has worked for you guys. did you guys have any side effects ? Are you periods normal or more painful after the procedure ? do you have backaches..? can you feel the coils inside ? Also during pregnancy can the coils hanging in the uterus hurt the baby ? if the area where the coils are located get pressed or pushed does it hurt and can tht cause the coil to move or... [ more ]
Former Member My doctor would not do IVF until i had the essure procedure done because of the same reasons you said, toxic fluid leaking down and preventing implantation of the embryo. I had it done in the office under light sedation, took all of 10 min. I had bilateral hydrosalpinx. I went ahead with my IVF and had successful pregnancy on the 3rd try. Had twins 8/1/11 I also had a MRI recently and they said the Essure were no problem for that, which it wasnt. Good luck to you!!!!! [ more ]
beth156 I had the essure placement about a month ago and so far so good. My MD also was VERY hesitant to do yet another surgery to remove my tubes, so he strongly encouraged this as the best option if I wanted to move forward with IVF. I will go back in December to see if the tubes are fully blocked, then move forward with IVF! I'm waiting until March or April for IVF as I'm a candidate for a New York State grant to help with the costs (health insurance covers $0!!!) and March is when I find out if... [ more ]

OH NOW WHAT!?
tammykathleen Hi Kelsey and Jennifer, The IUD causes more ovarian cysts to occur? Good Lord, I was told the OPPOSITE!! I do not definitely have PCOS, but have trouble with forming cysts on my ovaries. I am so glad I saw this post. I just spent over an hour in the MRI machine yesterday to gauge whether it is time to go in to remove more cysts or whether I can wait it out for a while. I had surgery in 2010 to remove a bunch and I was told to have the IUD, which I did, because it would lower the amount of... [ more ]

Intimate question
clz81 Katie, I had the exact same problem except I wouldn't use the word "pain", but it was extreme discomfort that could lead to pain. It was that way for about 2 years for me and then my baby boy was born. Problem solved! Leads me to believe there was some scar tissue or adhesion that broke when he was born (as Sharon suggested). Things are all good now. We had a baby prior my my j-pouch too so I had something to compare against. For you, this is all new so it probably hard to know what is... [ more ]
skn69 Hi Katie, So, it does not sound like 'normal' new sex, discomfort nor like typical jpouch tightness...it could be adhesions/scaring or that something is brewing between the 2 like an abscess...she might want to give you a vaginal ultrasound to see what is going on back there...have you tried the position with you on top? This may be a question of angle or trajectory for now...depening on the way he enters you...you need to find a position where when entering he puts pressure on the front of... [ more ]

IUD removal, for some relief.. coming up.
skn69 Good luck on that then and I hope that it works for you. IUDs can often cause cramping due to the body's desire to expulse them..Sometimes we just reject them for no reason. Please keep us posted on the progress. Sharon [ more ]
KelseyHey2308 Yes I have been taking Progesterone... in a pill called camilla. That's daily, and I think the cyst pain has gone down actually, but the cramping has not. I think I could attribute that to the IUD, we'll see next Tuesday! Yes my periods are the worst, nausea happens the most and the spotting (heavy or light, rarely an actual flow) lasts around ten days. My friend has the same IUD and she doesn't get periods at all, and mine are three times as bad and as long as they once were, I'm really... [ more ]
skn69 Kelsey, You could very well be right that the IUD removal will help you quite a bit if it is causing inflamation in the region...but the polycystic ovary is probably a major cause of pain too (and nausea due to hormone imbalances that it can cause)...in your case (young, single and not yet ready to have kids) they could put you on a run of a few months of progesterone...they use it here for polycystic ovaries...6-18months strait through...stops the periods and allows the cysts to shrink down... Hoping to catch a break down there
Colleen2001 UGH! I struggled with a Bartholin's cyst for years. As Karbear said, soaking in the bath helps. I used to soak with Epsom's salt every night until it drained. If you do have one, and it doesn't drain on it's own, you will need to go to the GYN and have them do it. You definitely don't want it to cause an abscess. Wish I could offer advice for the fissure, but it's one of the rare maladies that I have not expererienced (thankfully!!) Best of luck! Colleen [ more ]
Karbear I've had both, but not at the same time. If you think you have a Bartholin cyst, you should go see your GYN as soon as possible. Mine abscesses and swelled up to the size of a peach before I went to get it lanced. As for the fissure; sitz baths help a lot (they also will help with the cyst). I have some Nupercainal still and love it for the fissures. They took it off the market for awhile, and I'm not sure if it's back on the market. You may also be able to find something similar to it on... [ more ]

Can't have kids?
rockandroller This is a great post. Thank you! [ more ]
JenniferG that's right. Your fees are waved if you adopt a child from foster care! It's amazing! A US adoption can cost $20,000 and up and there is usually a waiting list... not to mention the push is for open adoption nowadays... I imagine if the child is in foster care, there is less chance of open adoption pressure. Don't get me wrong, open can really be beneficial to the child I just know some people aren't into that. pregnant and on flagyl for chronic pouchitis
Clicky Hi Armywife, So so excited for you ! I cried the first time that I saw my wee boy on ultrasound and heard his heartbeat! Now I am 21 weeks I can feel him kick (although with my unbelievable noisy and busy gut - its sometimes hard to tell the difference. armywife Clicky-I am about 9wks along right now over the past few weeks, I've been able to talk with a few mfm doctors who have all expressed to me that the current feeling on flagyl even in the 1st trimester has changed a bit. They basically told me not to worry and to continue to rotate flagyl and clindamycin because flairing would pose a greater risk than the theoretical risks of using flagyl. I am so so so relieved! Ways to help Implantation
CeeeeCeeee Not the same situation but last December I needed to have a complete hysterectomy and my gyn. surgeon really wanted to do it laprascopically. My colorectal surgeon said it wouldn't work because I had alot of adhesions. Still the gyn surgeon was determined. Well, he had to for the reasons mentioned above and he did so along the same scar as the original... [ more ]
commandz My doctor talked to the chief of surgery about me and was telling him about my total collectomy and wanting to take my tubes out and he said that we shouldn't do it laprascopically because they would have to go in around the small bowels and since that is all I have and have been doing well they don't want to mess with that. So I don't think that we are going to do anything and try without blocking anything and do IVF. I can see either side on making my decision but I don't want to be cut... [ more ]
beth156 MsSterl-I'm actually getting the Essure placed tomorrow morning... YIKES!! for 95% of people it takes 3 months before you can have IVF. 3 funded IVF attempts failed, unblocking my tubes? Desperate ;(
rockandroller I think it would be misguided to assume that blocked tubes are the "only" reason you can't get pregnant. Many women on this board have at least one tube that's totally clear (I have two, matter of fact) and despite years and years of TTC and fertility treatments, can't get PG. Oftentimes the surgery we've had displaces the ovaries a little bit, or covers them with scar tissue, so even if your tubes are ok, the egg can't get into them because of scar tissue around the ovaries. We had to pay... [ more ]

Pregnancy w Stoma vs. no Stoma

Kate1026 I had a failed j-pouch and I've had my ostomy for over a decade now. I gave birth to my daughter in May and had basically no issues with the stoma throughout the pregnancy and delivery. I actually thought maternity clothes did a GREAT job of hiding the bag. I preferred the "full panel" style maternity pants with the wide, soft, stretchy waistband that covers most of your belly. The full panel did a great job flattening and supporting the bag without being constricting. I also wore dresses a... [ more ]

getting pregnant
Comber It is definitely possible! I was very worried about not being able to get pregant after surgery. I had suffered with UC for 10 years and been on so many meds then having the 3 surgeries and having a lot of troubles with those I was for sure it would never happen. It took my husband and I a little over a year to get pregnant but we did it on our own and actually had just quit "trying" when it did happen. [ more ]
Joannab70 I was told any abdominal surgery can affect your ability to get pregnant or not. Some women find it easier, some harder to get pregnant after surgery. I got pregnant after trying for 5 months. I discussed the c-section before the birth with my OB-GYN and we decided it was the best decision for me. Everything was working well with my muscles and I didn't want to put any additional strain on them. Turns out my daughter was 9 pounds 6 ounces with a big head! I made a good decision. Best wishes... OMG, it burned SO bad, I jumped out of bed and into the shower before my husband even knew what was happening. Lesson learned: Butt burn and warming lube do NOT go together. As far as libido, it's still pretty low, but that's probably due to being on birth control, that always kills it for me. I was still nursing when I got UC, so we had barely resumed sex... [ more ]

Chasing the wrong problem for six months, possible PCOS
liz11 kelsey- Your doctor can mail you a prescription for controlled substances and then you can hand carry that prescription to your pharmacy to get filled. And certain ones, like vicodin can be called in from the doctor to the pharmacy. Heavier dutier ones like percocet have to have an actual physical prescription. So instead of having to drive, ask your doctor to mail the prescription to your house. Try to get oustide and sit or lie in the sunshine for awhile. It might help you feel a bit better. [ more ]

Bill Johnson founded the J-Pouch Group in 1997.

After a life long battle with Ulcerative colitis, Bill finally had his colon removed and was given an ostomy in 1993. A failed attempt for a j-pouch and then many surgeries to get back his health gave Bill the motivation to create a web site dedicated to giving support to patients who have had or are considering j-pouch surgery.
