Is it possible for yeast to develop in the pouch? I was on Augmenten and felt pretty good but a few days later I had bad itching and cramping gas bubbles,  pain and urgency.

They tested for Cdiff and it was negative. In desperation I took a 200mg Diflucan and felt better soon after.

My Dr said "That's weird"  Getting tired of doctors saying I'm weird...

Hi Lori- oh my heart aches for you if you have symptoms of pouchitis & yeast'itis'. I haven't suffered with pouchitis (knock on wood), but know the suffering of terrible yeast infections.  Diflucan is the best cure & sounds like that was the 'resolve'? I don't have any insight to your issue, sorry. But hopefully others may and that is what makes this site so great. You're not weird, you're pretty darn smart- you may have solved & resolved yeast'itis'! All the best- Kara

Hi Lori,

I actually read something recently that suggested yeast could be an alternative cause of pouchitis. I was also reading that a strong pro-biotic can help but might not be enough to knock it out so adding an anti-fungal like oregano oil might be useful. I just started VSL-3 a few weeks ago myself and am still having discomfort (trapped gas, feels like my pouch won't empty, increased frequency, watery stools, occasional nausea) so I'm thinking of tossing an anti-fungal in the mix as well.

Sorry for your doctor's lame response. I've been pretty irritated with my post-op care, personally, and don't feel like my surgeon takes my concerns seriously enough or really understands my sense of urgency about this stuff. I even called to bump up my first annual check-up, which I expected to be a scope, and when I got there it was just a finger exam even though I consistently requested a scope appointment every time I spoke to his office. Maybe it wouldn't have shown anything after all, or maybe it would have helped save me the last several months of misery by offering some concrete insight > I hope you feel better soon!

I've gotten yeast in my pouch. Generally I can tell that's what it is if I have yeast infection itching around my anus.  (I can tell the difference if Calmoseptine doesn't help the irritation and itch of the butt burn then it is a yeast infection)  Generally three of days of the vaginal yeast infection medicine straight into the pouch at night cures it.
