I would make an appointment with your GI surgeon and get his take on it. Each case should be handled individually. A compromise to put your mind at ease would be to ask for your surgeon, or someone in his group, be available on call in the hospital when your c-section is scheduled. That way, you are covered if a need comes up, but he is not there wasting his time if everything is uneventful.

I had my second child 2 years after my j-pouch. We did a c-section and I had my c/r surgeon there as well as my OB. He repaired a small hernia on my midline after the baby was taken. I don't remember if the hernia was an issue before the pregnancy or if that's what made it present. So if you have a hernia develop during the pregnancy, don't worry about it. I had 2 csections and my c/r surgeon was never there (didn't even have privileges at the hospital where I had my babies).  There was two OBs there for the csection and a general surgeon, just in case.  He removed some scar tissue, but nothing else.  My c/r surgeon said he wasn't necessary as the uterus is so far in front of the jpouch, there shouldn't be any issues to the pouch during delivery.

You might want to ask your surgeon how he recommended they do the cut for the csection.  One said vertical, like my colectomy and my second baby was a bikini cut.  I have lots of pretty scars  All healed nicely.

I had r/v fistulas so a vaginal delivery was out of the question for me.  In fact, they didn't even want me to go into labor, so I was scheduled for delivery on the last day of week 38 for both of my babies.  I never did go into labor.  I felt really good during my pregnancies!  I hope you do, too!

Thank all u ladies I feel a bit better knowing your deliveries went great and hopefully mine does too. One more question... did your scars hurt while pregnant or did the stretching bother them at all?

I, like Laura, had 2 c-sections. My GI surgeon was not present, and I had no complications. My first pregnancy, my water broke before my scheduled c section, around 1am. But thankfully my two OB doctors were on call; everything went as planned. So you might want to schedule the c section before 40 weeks. 

I also felt incredibly good during my pregnancies. My arthritis vanished those 40 weeks. 3 weeks after delivery, for both kids, it returned. If only they could bottle up that hormone change, I'd drink it down everyday. My doc suggested having 12 kids...

Anyhow, congrats and enjoy the incredible experience.

Every positive experience helps, I was thinking  the worse scaring myself thinking I was gona get cut open the wrong way or something but it seems like a lot of women had their c-sections with little to no complications.! I need to worry less and just go wit the flow like a regular pregnancy unless something does come up. Again thank you all that have given me feed back, since I know no woman with u.c or had a colectomy. Thank goodness for this forum! 

Hi Gen1, my colectomy scar was low enough it wasn't bothered. The scar from my ileostomy stretched a bit - it got slightly itchy and uncomfortable but was generally ok if I kept Bio-oil or another moisturizer on it. Didn't hurt unless it got poked directly

My scars didn't hurt while pregnant, but it was 8 years after my colectomy.  My scars actually looked better after the csection.  No stretch marks either.  I used cocoa butter on my belly to help with the itching as the skin stretched

I had  a perm ileo after j-pouch failure by the time I had my babies.  I had a high risk OB but no surgeon was present during my c-sections.  My c/r surgeon said that c-sections are very dirty operations and that unless something drastic needed to be done, he wouldn't take any action during a c-section anyway.  Two uneventful c-sections - OB told me I could have 4 more - I told him to send his kids to college on some other woman's uterus that two was plenty!
