at end of the month I am joining a gym and getting a new healthy body. I don't need to lose weight but I want to tone and bulk up to add muscle weight. I'm pretty sure what I need to eat but looking for a supplement to take before my workout to maximize muscle growth and then afterwards recovery. And whats safe for the j-pouch that wont go right through me and be effective? any help would be appreciative.

there are just so many products and most are junk and gimmicks. I need something that wont break my small bank account and actually work

everyone says whey protein but just read this,

Digestive issues

Some people experience severe digestive issues following consumption of whey protein powder.[27] These may include gas, bloating, cramps, tiredness, weakness, fatigue, headaches, and irritability. One of the possible causes is lactose intolerance after they ingest whey concentrate.[28] Undigested protein in the colon will undergo bacterial fermentation which leads to the production of, among other things, gas and fatty acids.[29
Eat protein. Spurilina is the highest natural protein the body can absorb. A Paleo diet is what most athletes eat these days. Gets in the fats and correct protein. Also helps with fatigue and your work out performance and metabolism.

Dairy in general is not good for you. There is a brand that makes grass fed Goat whey that could be an option to try. Just make sure what you are getting is 100% natural otherwise it is just poison to that pouch and Whey is a GMO food fyi.
As others have said, protein is a must, but I've found that the vast majority of protein bars and shakes have whey in them (fast-digesting milk protein), which runs right through me and jacks my bathroom trips way up.

Casein protein is a slow-digesting milk protein and gets along with "J" just fine, but it won't be as effective for pre/post workout supplementation - best for morning (to last through the day) or before bed to give your body tools for repair and recovery during sleep.

I have had no problem with creatine, BCAA's, glutamine (great for both GI and muscle growth) or CLA, all of which I take both before and after workouts to help with energy and muscle regeneration.

Good luck!
