I had my j-pouch surgery 13 years ago (1 step procedure). I have been slowly but steadily losing weight since then. My surgeon did my last scope two months ago to make sure the pouch was functioning properly. There was slight inflammation but nothing of concern to him. I now weigh 87.4 pounds, my pre surgery weight was 115 pounds, I’m 5’2” tall. I also have Celiac disease and have been on a gluten free diet for many years. Tests have proved I’m now gluten free. I’m wondering if it’s possible that my small intestine has been damaged from the years that I was eating gluten, before my Celiac diagnosis? I have tried many diets including low fodmap for SIBO as I was tested for high SIBO count. Also low carbohydrate, dairy free, sugar free diets. I’ve also tried several antibiotics, Imodium and Metamucil as I have a high output, short transit time and often very liquid stools. Nothing has helped so far and I’m very concerned! I’m now 73 years old and fear that if I continue to lose weight at his rate I won’t be able to survive for much longer although I’m in reasonably good health overall, active and fit. It feels like my doctors and alternative practitioners have given up on me. They have nothing more to recommend.
I would very much appreciate any advise, suggestions or feedback, thank you 🙏!
