I am sorry to hear about the problems your daughter has had with her jpouch. My situation was different (failed jpouch after 30 years), but my options were the same. I opted for a BCIR (modification of a k pouch) since I did not want an end ileostomy. The hardest part of the surgery, so I am told, is removal of the jpouch, but that plus creation of the BCIR (or k pouch) is done in one operation.
Everything went well with my surgery and I had a complete recovery three months after returning home. I did have pouchitis and some valve leakage for several months post-op, but that cleared up completely and has not returned. Although you can have the ileostomy first and convert to a k pouch or BCIR at a later time, that would involve two separate operations.
