Curious to know if anyone tried the whipworm therapy before going for surgery - it sounds interesting and promising and there are a ton of clinical trials on it for treating autoimmune diseases. Anyone?
Yes, I know someone from another board who tried whipworms a couple of different times throughout his UC. They did not work for him and he recently had surgery.
I know a Crohn's patient who did well while on whipworms, but he won't even credit them with his success because he was also changing conventional medicines at the time. I've never read a UC success story.
Yeah I have also heard that the whipworm therapy works better in Crohn's. There was a University of Iowa study that showed almost 80% of 29 people went into remission with it but they were Crohn's patients.
Anyone have any idea why it would work better with Crohn's patients than UC patients? I mean both diseases are caused by the immune system attacking the digestive track and the whipworms are supposed to somehow interact with the immune system and stop it from attacking the digestive track. Why would it be more effective in Crohn's than UC?
Bowel diseases are some of the most complex of the autoimmune diseases. This is just one example of how Crohn's and UC are very similar, with overlapping signs and symptoms, but also distinct in their disease pattern.
