i want to ask something about whipple procedure(tips ideas)
I had a consultation today with my doctor about Whipple surgery.
He told me that there are two options, one is to operate on me to make a whipple surgery
Remove part of pancreas part of stomach and duodenum
However for him I am 30 years old so many organs to lose it is a crippling operation in most cases..
The second option is follow-up every 6 or 3 months and endoscopically to remove polyps
He said the second one is risky because they don't see all the polyps, but it's better because it's not crippling
I have polyps all over the duodenum says low tubular adenom dysplasia.( about 1-5mm)
Any tips ideas i am afraid losing my organs

hi borislav,

i urge you to get a second opinion as i did years ago when my gastroenteroligist proposed to me the possibility of needing a whipple.

today my duodenom looks like someone did surgery on me, its clean of polyps and the surgeon i saw for a second opinion said he makes a living from surgeries and has children going through college, i did not require a whipple surgery and im now almost 45 years old

i have fap also and just because you have fap does not mean you need you duodenum removed and part of pancreas and part of stomach

i'll be getting a 2nd opinion after my gi of 20 years has threatened i may face a partial gastrectomy following low grade dysplasia polyps found 1.6 cm and 2.3 centimeters

dont be afraid, ask questions, its a major operation and just because you have fap does not mean you need a whipple surgery

good luck

Hi Boris,

i am so sorry to read this post and learn of your situation.

there is a thread from a number of years ago from a member named chuckus, who details his journey with this exact surgery.

yes, it is a major major procedure with a long recovery. While you have your youth on your side, should you decide to pursue this, you would need to find a very very experienced surgical team who have performed this many many times.

I confirmed the above statement with a hospital administrator friend of mine, who is familiar with the procedure.

my thoughts and prayers are with you.

What did you drink to make your duodenal polyps go away after you gave up whipple surgery or did your duodenal polyps go away on their own just by dieting
