Hi there, I’m thinking about getting a catheter to help empty my jpouch. My anal sphincters are super tight and I have so many problems right now from it. Which catheter should I buy? Name and size? I think I need something on the smaller side and maybe with a smooth edge. Oh and a catheter that’s not too stiff.

thank you!!

Definitely reccomend asking your gastro or colon surgeon.

Awesome Idea about the catheter, a lot of people on here are doing that too.

I’m gonna see my surgeon this week so I’ll be sure to ask her what she recommends! Yea I’ve read about so many people doing that too. Seems like it could be just the thing to help me!

Let me know how it goes with your surgeon

I just realized I never responded! I’m sorry!!  My surgeon ended up giving me the catheter but it doesn’t work for me 😭 when I try to remove the catheter, my sphincter clamps so hard on it and the two little holes on the end of the catheter end up scraping me so bad. I’ve tried multiple times but it does the same thing every time. I’m really bummed. Fortunately I have an appt at mayo in two weeks! I’m hoping they’ll be able to give me some advice and answers. Hope you are doing well!!

Its okay dear And I am sorry to hear all of this! I do not know any other option but a temporary ileostomy bag to give your J-pouch a break. Are you open to that???

Thank you ❤️ I honestly am not in that bad of shape. My jpouch is healthy and I have 0 issues except for my sphincter. I’ve been getting by with the miralax and water enemas for quite some time now. It’s definitely not a perfect system but it’s good enough for now...I’d like to figure out what else I can do for my sphincter though so I don’t have to rely on these other things for the rest of my life. I’m hoping Mayo has some ideas. I’m guessing either biofeedback or Botox for sphincter? But we shall see! I’ll keep you posted
