I'm thinking that this question should be brought to my doctor but since my next apt. isn't for 4 weeks, I thought I'd ask you all Smiler

My husband and I would like to eliminate wheat, dairy and sugar products from our diet for 3 weeks just to get our bodies on a healthier track. In addition, I have pouchitis and think suspending the intake of these might help me find what irritates my pouch.
Could too much roughage in my diet be problematic?

I have a major sweet tooth so I decided to cut out all sugar from my diet about a month ago. I feel A LOT better and I lost 5 pounds just doing that one thing. I have added more veggies and mostly chicken since I'm not a big red meat eater. I don't miss the sweet stuff at all now....it's like I had to de-tox from it. I still have some dairy here and there. I haven't noticed any change in my bathroom visits. I'm still going my usual 4 to 6x a day. I just feel better.
When I behave myself and eliminate wheat and sugar from my diet I feel much better, and can usually even prolong the interval between antibiotic pulses. The only caveat is that when I am being really strict with my diet I start losing weight, and peanut butter cookies are the only thing I have found that helps me gain it back.
You can eat, or not eat, whatever you want. Your jpouch isn't special, it's just your small intestine. I have no problems with sugar, dairy, or rice, but whole wheat I find irritating on exit. I still eat it, but prefer sourdough bread. I find that I am intolerant to fake sugars that are found in chewing gum, NUUN electrolytes, and many other foods and beverages. I'm not convinced this has anything to do with my jpouch, but is just something that doesn't agree with my system. Even coloned-people have food intolerances.

I personally don't believe there is a jpouch diet or way of eating for all of us. And because I feel well and am healthy, I am not going to give food groups up.
