About a week ago I had trouble emptying my pouch. Felt pressure to empty but it would take lots of straining and a couple of tries to get more out. Some mild tenderness and aches off and on where my mesh might be located. Tried a laxative (last Saturday), emptied the pouch, but symptoms came back. Had trouble releasing gas and had a lot of gurgling.

Last night (Thursday) I had a significant amount of blood when I emptied my pouch, but did not strain at all. I was going to call my surgeon today, but all of the symptoms (and blood) disappeared. I just have a lot of tenderness mid-Belly.

So......what was that all about? The last time I had blood it was with pouchitis and/or Advil. Symptoms were nothing alike.

I have the same question as Mike. At first I thought I was experiencing a narrow opening. I would try to go, then not much would empty. Stand up for a few and then have to sit right back down again and the I would release a lot more.

Kind of thought mushrooms, corn and or mixed nuts might have played a part. But I have eaten all three in the past without an issue.
Marianne, I am in the same boat as you. Strictures make life miserable, but no blood.

No idea about an obstruction causing blood, but I would definitely call your doc's office and let them know what happened.

I have read other posts on jpouch.org about pouchitis and blood, but have no experience with it.

But definitely call your doc's office, as significant blood is not normal.
I was told obstruction can resolve itself. I had been getting sick at my stomach/some pain for yrs. but went away over night until the one time it didn't. bowel obstruction but actually did resolve itself while in hospital but still had surgery b/c doc felt scar tissue was causing the obstruction. got out of hospital/put on strict diet for a few wks. then had surgery to remove scar tissue/j pouch prolapse which was told not real common but does happen and do not strain. When did they use mesh? I was told it was going to be used for my last surgery but then told not. quess it was not needed after opening me up. this was 2009 and since then heard mesh has been a problem so that is why I called to make sure it was not used. Only for a short time no problems and then it started all over. not being able to empty good at end not getting sick like I was. I think what really pushed me over the edge was it was Christmas and most everything had nuts. I know I have to chew mushrooms up really good so I don't have them often even though I really like.
