I'm 9.5 months post takedown. Besides not ever successfully stopping cipro, it seems like some weird things are happening. Between 1-4 hours a day my pouch goes crazy. I start visiting the restroom 4 to 8 times an hr. Pretty soon into this crazy bout, I am passing straight bile. It took me 7 or 8 different visits to pass all the dark yellow mess tonight. After the first few (being about 5 mins apart) I just stayed in the restroom. I'm praying I'm finished. Anybody know why I might be producing so much bile?

Is it happening after you eat a meal? Because it sounds like you could have a spasmodic bowel (excessive motility). If so you need to take anti-spasmodics like bentyl, levsin, or donnatal about 45 minutes before meals. This is not an unusual problem after takedown. I had it for about a year after takedown and controlled it with the above meds.
I know it doesn't happen after every meal, but it might be happening after some meals. It happened last night about 4am. I did eat a couple leftover ribs and had a few cookies at about 1am. I'll try to get some of the antispasmodics you mentioned. How long did you have to take the antispasmodics?

Symptoms
-Lots of burning with it (thank God for calmoseptine and travel bidets)
-Nausea with last night's bout
-I could hear bile swishing around inside me while getting in and out of bed
-3 to 10 yellow liquid bile BMs during 1-3hr period

I think I took them regularly until about one year post takedown, at which time things calmed down.

My surgeon told me that excessive motility can be an issue after takedown and he knew immediately what the problem was when I described the symptoms. The anti-spasmodics I mentioned were all very effective, but I found levsin and bentyl made me feel a little loopy. The donnatal was a bit more mild. I still take a donnatal at bedtime and I don't have any of the issues you described.
KP,
You might want to start keeping a food diary:
Mark the times of day, what you eat, with what other foods and liquids (some thing just no longer mix once you have a pouch) and what your bowels reaction is...
Keep it going 24/7 for at least 2 weeks and note all meds that you take as well...
After a while you might start to see some pattern that can help...like food allergies or sensitivities etc...

I do need to keep a food diary. I guess you include what you eat and how your stools are? That shouldn't be too hard. I did just receive results on a food intolerance test. I have a lot of intolerances, including a severe intolerance to chicken. Not sure about its validity, but I am trying to avoid the 100's of foods it said to. Anyone ever heard of or taken the ALCAT? Is it for real?

Donnatal - I will have to remember that.

Thanks you guys! I appreciate the info!
I was put on Hyomax (Hyoscyamine) to help with motility and to stop the yellow bile BMs. It worked great for 2 days. I was able to sleep and work in the way that I wish I could every day. Then I ate 3 bean and cheese breakfast burritos and it seems like that ruined everything. It's been 2 weeks since eating the burritos and I'm not passing yellow bile anymore, but my frequency has increased to 15 to 25 BMs a day. I have way more gas now than I did before and I'm not sure what to blame. My stools are somewhat formed, floating, and itch like crazy. Could it be medicine? I'm on Cipro, Lomotil, Hyomax, and Ketoconazole (for yeast overgrowth). Could it be food? Could it be something else?

I started keeping a food/BM diary today and I'm going to my GI on Monday. I'm going to ask for a pouchoscopy, stool tests, camera pill, whatever could possibly help. If you have any recommendations for me, I'd appreciate them all.
