Hi all, I've been seeing the word SIBO on other threads and didn't want to interrupt the flow of those threads. I know that it stands for "small intestine bacterial overgrowth" and I understand that it's diagnosed by a breathalizer test? My GI has never mentioned the word to me, just cuffitis and pouchitis and when I'm symptomatic with no evidence of either (according to yesterday's scope), then the cause is a "mystery." What is the treatment for SIBO? Can Immodium use lead to it? I'm hesitant to use it because all it seems to do is slow things down and make eliminating more strained. My output gets really stinky and frothy (sorry about the TMI, but hoping I'm not alone) too. I suspect I have SIBO because my scope looked really good yesterday, I started the Immodium yesterday and I'm gassy today. I'm just trying to put the pieces together into something that makes sense.

Thanks for your replies and suggestions, KNKLHEAD and CTBarrister. I'm wondering if I've had SIBO all of those times that I had symptoms but showed no signs of cuffitis or pouchitis via scans and my GI threw his hands up in confusion. From the number of mentions on here, SIBO is definitely a real thing and common. Shouldn't my GI know about it? I suspect I'm the black sheep of his j-pouch patients because I present with so many problems and that all his others are doing well. Confused
