Hello All,

I'm a newbie to this forum, although been actively reading all the posts for years now.

I am now 8 days post takedown. During my surgery, I had to be dilated, so quite concerned whether the things I am experiencing are the 'j-pouch norm' or could it be something that needs treatment. I really don't know what is expected in week 1, week 2 or by week x you will feel Y.

I am currently going about 15 times a day, some times with a bit of urgency and very occasionally get a bit of blood. The thing that I am finding is that I can only pass a couple of tablespoons worth of stool at a time, requiring me to spend a long period of time on the toilet or visit again 5-10 minutes later. I also find that gravity doesn't do much for me and have to give it a friendly push along.

I would really appreciate it if you would share your experiences to give me some advice on the above.

Thanks

Andy

I can't really say what the norm is, I think everyone is different. I was going about 10 times a day after the op and it went down to 6-7 after a week and after a month about 5-6 times. 15 times does seem high but it is still very early days. What you call "a friendly push" could be regarded as "straining" which is to be avoided as that would make matters worse. I think you have to be patient and give it a bit longer and hopefully things will improve. Best wishes

I had to be dilated too after takedown. And I had to repeat the process 5 times before the scar tissue stopped forming. Your description of not being able to empty sounds like the stricture is still there. When I was going through this I found that putting my feet up on a little step stool while sitting on the toilet helped me empty better. Does your surgeon have you coming back soon for a follow up?
