What is an anal fissure?

Cuts in the skin caused by frequent BM’s, irritation from diarrhea, straining, etc.  It can be internal and external. The pain can radiate so it may feel like the problem is on the external bottom, as well. 

I was just treated for the first time for this. I was told I had a lot of little cuts and skin tags. The tags are associated with stretching and can be the result of hemneroids.

 I instantly responded to Recticare which is the strongest non Rx lidocaine. Runs about $25 but soooo worth it. 

I was told to mix it with Desitin as a barrier. You can also mix it with Calmoseptine, which is another amazing product. However, the cooling in the Calmoseptine that normally brings instant relief was causing pain with the cuts . 

I didn’t get a chance to buy the Desitine and used the Rectcare only and the problem resolved immediately within a day  I guess my case wasn’t serious, though it was going on over a month. However, it can get serious and mire painful if left untreated.

The Desitine or Calmoseptine is important as a barrier during healing and especially when BM’s are frequent as with pouchitis.

Also, no soaps as tempting as that is with frequent BM’s and pouchitis. Soap is drying, irritating and disrupts the normal ph. Soap can exacerbate the problem with more pain and terrible itching. 

Just use water and pat dry or use a blow dryer, if practical. No rubbing. A non irritating cleanser like Balneol can also be used. It’s meant for vaginal and rectal cleaning. 

Fissures feel like there are razor blades or shards of glass moving around inside when you try to have a BM. Buy a sitz bath (a plastic basin shaped like a toilet seat) for your son. They are available at drugstores or Amazon for approximately $14.  It fits on top of any toilet (make sure the toilet lid is up). Fill the sitz bath with very warm water, or hot water if it can be tolerated. Sit in the water until it cools. The warm water will increase blood flow to the tissues in that area and encourage healing on the inside where the cuts are. The warm water is very soothing. Also try a very gentle cream such as Zincofax that is made for babies' bums. It doesn't have menthol so it won't cause further burning sensation the way Calmoseptine can when applied to broken, raw skin. Good luck to your son.

Yes-fissures are little tears in the skin in and around the anal area-it literally feels like you are pooping shards of glass. The ideal solution for these is a bidet attachment for your toilet seat-you can sit on the toilet and have the bidet attachment shoot a stream of water up to bathe the anal area several times a day-I have found this way more beneficial than creams, etc.

My son has pain right before a bowel movement and during.  No external butt burn.  I don't know if butt burn can be internal?  He is battling pouchitis right now and I'm not sure if that would cause this type of pain?  Maybe hemorrhoids?  He is 2.5 yrs post takedown and had mucosectomy so no cuffitis. 

I had a redo 3 1/2 years ago with mucousectomy and I was told by my GI, Dr Shen that the cells can grow back and you still can get cuffitis..
