Hi all, this is my first post.  I was wondering if you can tell me what pouchitis feels like.  I think I may be experiencing a bout of pouchitis - I have some cramping and urgency.  But there is no blood and I can get through the urges without running to the toilet.  I thought pouchitis would be like colitis but this is more mild.  But certainly something has changed.

I just had my takedown 2 weeks ago - can pouchitis even develop that quickly?  It's so frustrating as for the first week and a half it was fantastic and I thought I had made a good decision.

I am not due to see my doctor for another week and a half.

Many thanks

Pouchitis can develop early, and the lack of blood is typical in pouchitis. OTOH you're still very early in the adjustment period. I'd guess that it's more likely that you're eating more (and a wider variety), and your body is letting you know to take it easy with this newly manufactured organ. You should expect unfamiliar sensations as you and your pouch adjust. I'm not suggesting that you ignore them, but it may be premature to diagnose them. In my case, as I allowed the capacity of my new pouch to gradually increase I sometimes chose to let it be uncomfortable and crampy, within reason. If I was in the car I would sometimes let it get more extreme, all in the name of science. If you're not having frequent accidents there's a good chance this is all just fine. The ability to choose was exhilarating even when it was uncomfortable.

I don't tend to think pouchitis unless I'm having true urgency I can't put off, or accidents/leakage of some sort.

Good luck!

Thanks Scott and Jan.  Your replies were reassuring, and sure enough things did calm down.  I think it was that I had just reintroduced raw vegetables and the gas moving all about in there was so extreme.

I have now, however, caught a flu.  The first few days the flu was terrible but my bowels were fine, but now I have constant watery diarrhea.  It's not really even diarrhea really, just water coming from my bum!  I am trying to stay hydrated, but it's hard and I'm barely eating as I have no appetite and feel nauseous all the time.  I hope this passes soon.

This my first time to this forum I think it's helpful for older and newer jpouchers ... My jpouch is one month old today and Yesterday I experimented with lactaid milk for the first time with plan crispix cereal and I don't think it agreed with me to well I had quiet a few BMs and burning being I don't really know the symptoms of pouchitis I was very scare I may have had between the urgency frequency and burn .... Has anyone else  experienced this before with lactaid milk?

Hey Tshirt and Sunny,

Just wondering how you both have made out? I and just a month takedown to my pouch and things have changed for me too. Things were great and I started taking VSL3 Probiotic and have felt different and BM's are different ever since. Do I need to just deal with these things for a while?

Thanks so much!
