Hope everyone is doing well. Prior to having my large intestine taken out I lost so much weight due to the UC. I have about a month to go to have the second surgery towards getting the j pouch. I have gotten back to my normal weight, but seem to have gotten a lot of it around my waist. Exercise is limited for me having the illestomy bag, but I walk as much as possible. Did any of you experience big weight gain, or fat around your waist during this time? I been wearing sweat pants because they are the most comfortable and work the best for me right now. The other day I tried to put on a pair of my work pants so I could go into the shop and work a little and couldn't even button them up because my waist has gotten bigger. I know I can lose the body fat and a little weight when all of this surgery stuff is done. Just seems a little weird that I'm back to my normal weight but have this issue. thanks

It's not just you but Covid has scared a lot of people away from gyms. Exercise is at an all time low and weight gain is at an all time high whether you have colon, J pouch or ileostomy bag. Everyone needs to do walks and get what exercise they can. My weight is up and my blood pressure is at an all time high. It becomes even harder as you get older to fight weight gain and rising blood pressures.
You don't want to gain too much weight before surgery. In fact I was made to lose 10 pounds before step 1 and my surgeon wouldn't cut me until I did. Try to keep excess weight off until you are done with surgery.
Thank you so much for all that info, especially about keeping the weight off before surgery. Thanks.
Glad to hear you are walking around, that is definitely smart! Keep up the good work with that and I am sure you will be fine. Eat healthy too since you are going in with more surgery. I cannot wait for your surgeries! I know you will do great!
Thank you.
Joejoe, I think we have all have put on a few pounds with covid. Mine tends to want to congregate around my middle also. I decided to go join a weight loss group online. I've lost most of what I've gained, thank god lol. I also try to walk for 40 to 60 minutes a day and drink lots of water. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I was sick before my surgeries, so my weight was low. Gained some weight back with the bag but then lost again with the j pouch. Now I don't gain really, just stay around 118 to 120. I was 142 before I got sick and dropped to 117, then about 130 with the bag. Everyone is different I guess.
Yes I also gained weight after my colon was out. When I was sick with uc I was literally starving to death. I lost 90 pounds in about 45 days. Once I had surgery I started eating everything I could get my hands on. I'd even wake up in the middle of the night and eat. The problem was I couldn't shut it off and I gained to much weight. It wasn't until my surgeon told me he wouldn't operate on me if I didn't get in shape that I realized I needed to get back under control. After that I started biking and worked my way up to about 100 miles a week before my surgery. I lost the weight and now I'm in pretty good shape
