Hello everyone! I am 6 weeks post construction and 3 weeks out from my takedown, nervous but excited...

I was wondering if anyone could comment on how they put on weight after these surgeries. I am 20, 5'11" and was 140, but have dropped down all the way to 120 since surgery, and I look scary skinny!!

So what did you guys do to get back your weight? Does it just take time?

thanks!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about your weight so soon , although I felt very much the same after surgery when I lost 22lb.

Once you return to a normal diet and routine, your weight should also return.

If you start to eat foods now that are high in protein or foods which add body/muscle mass, without a exercise program you'll end up storing fat around your mid section and/ or buttocks and thighs, which is far more difficult to get rid of than it is to acquire.

Im a 41 year old male I'm 6 months post takedown I lost 45 pounds I went from 225 to 180 I wasn't eating much because I was scared to eat obviously because of the bathroom but as days and weeks went by I was eating more and start putting back pounds I've gained 10 pound since then now that I've gained ten I'm weight  conches lol ... Point is don't worry it's normal for what I've read from others and what I've experienced hang in there and congrats

Somehow, for a lot of girls, it seems like weight gain is a no brainer once we are healthy again...it sort of follows us around and jumps us when we are not looking...

But a lot of guys complain that they can't seem to get back to a healthy weight and that they look too skinny or undernourished.

For the guys you need a two pronged plan of attack...firstly nutrition...High protein diet with extra protein to build muscle, healthy fats (nut butters, coconut oil, olive oil...) and good proteins supplemented with protein powders.

Whole grain breads, oatmeal and other full grain sources of carbs are good too.

Then you need to train with weights to help to build your muscle mass...you do not need hugely heavy weights but slow movements and pyramidal training.

It is the forever guy/girl thing...we want less, you want more.

Good luck.

I'm 5'2" and had my surgery at age 19. Went in around 105lbs at the time; left at 89lbs. During the four months with my ileostomy, I just ate whatever I wanted. After takedown, I settled at about 105-110 again.

Im 45 now and have the issue of a lot of 40 year olds: I'm up to 135lbs!  I hung out at about 123-125lbs for a billion years, but age is getting the best of me, despite eating better and exercising 3x/week.

I was as low as 165 while going through surgeries.  It is interesting that one of my friends said, "I looked great!"  albeit I was very skinny for no other reason than I was unhealthy at the time.  Since I had a pouch redo in the fall last year I am EASILY up to 195.   I have a voracious appetite and now I have to be careful and have "normal people problems"  -- need to exercise and eat better!
