Hello All-

I know a lot of people are usually under weight with colitis. I was at a comfortable weight before I was on the steroids. Many years of steroids and a pregnancy put me at about 40 lbs over. But, I still can't seem to loose! It's been over 10 years that I had my j Pouch and I've had the best of luck with it. I have a hard time taking vitamins. I've never had pochitus. But, as I'm getting older and my Dr. Retiring, im feeling like I need to be a bit more involved with my body and my pouch!

Im  wondering how you all do with your weight or if you've had any issues loosing? Also, what is your routine on vitamins ect? I do take lomotil when I wake up and before bed. That is my life saver!

Thanks for any feed back!

I gained an incredible amount of weight due to birth control medication, two pregancies and severe anemia due to heavy periods leaving me too tired to care for self. I am well now and stared taking better care of myself. I have lost 32 lbs. I go to Curves and work out 4 times a week, walk the dog daily and watch what I eat. I aim to eat clean. I also got a Fitbit which I love.

Well, to be honest, I'm about 100 lbs heavier than I was after my takedown... 17 years ago.  Weight has been my biggest struggle.  The typical "diet" food of veggies, etc. are my biggest enemies, when it comes to my pouch.  The "bland" diet that was recommended to me before/during/after surgery is what I've relied on all these years -- heavy on the carbs -- white bread, rice, noodles, etc.   And, for obvious reasons, I don't want to have any bariatric surgery -- and my surgeon says I shouldn't.   So, I wish I could say I've had any success.  I think I'm going to have to see a nutritionist or dietician that KNOWS gastro issues and j-pouches before I will be able to lose weight successfully.  I just don't know where to start to try and find someone.  So... I'm in the same boat... if someone has a solution out there, please share!!!

I've always had weight challenges and that didn't change with having a J-pouch!  Fortunately, on the one hand, my pouch is food and drink friendly.  Anything goes!  I did very well on Weight Watchers but didn't stick with it forever.  My pouch loves crunchy veggies, etc. so my food choices are wide open.  I just don't usually make wise ones!

I guess my reply will be somewhat controversial but the best solution to lose weight is to eat less, especially cakes/sugary foods of  a high calorie content.

Also, not to consume heavy meals or takeaways during the evening or just prior to bed, as during the normal inactivity of an evening and then sleeping for 8 hours, the calories are not being burnt off.

It's one of the reason it's recommended not to skip but to eat a hearty breakfast as normal daily activity until lunch provides the opportunity to burn off the calories

Otherwise, if a breakfast is missed our body begins to crave sugary snacks during mid morning.

I lost 50 and only got 7 back and I eat all the time.
Not bragging... Trust me.  I only wish I could gain.
175 before and kept my weight there for a very long time even with UC.  Now I'm 139 and look like... Well... Terrible.
Sorry to hijack your thread but I have the opposite problem and it's just as bad.
I get scoped Thursday.  Maybe they will see or find what my problem is.  Doubt it.
