On Thursday January 22 we will be down for a period to upgrade to a new platform. We are staying with the same company so all of our forums and discussions will be migrating over to the new platform.
I'll let you know what time and for how long as soon as I find out.
All the best!

OK Folks. Tomorrow (THursday) at 11 AM Eastern standard time we will be down for about 4 hours. Maybe less.
We should keep all of our forums, discussions and memberships.
Some of your bookmarks may change so just look for us at www.j-pouch.org to find the discussion group.
The site will look different but we should maintain all the features we now have and much more will be coming.
All my best wishes to all of my IBD friends.

Looks like things are up and running well.

I noticed a flood of emails in my inbox though. If you want to change your notifications, go to "manage" then "notifications." There you can uncheck any notifications you do not want.

Also, the default is to automatically follow and be notified on any topics you reply to. That also can be changed in the settings under "manage."

Wow! I'm surprised. Would you mind sharing what is hard about using this new forum?

Thanks!

I agree with Bill, the new system is easier to use.  A few of the things that I really like are on the homepage a list of all the recent threads and topics so I don't have to go through all the forums to look for new stuff.

It's nice that the site is now mobile friendly but that part needs some tweaks.

The new Reply feature I find the most useful; the old format was difficult to reply to as well as quote posts and especially quote multiple posts.

For those of us who fight the Mobile/smart phone at all cost the new format "to me is cluttered and over loaded with info all at once." the new home page offers you every thing at once but only if it's popular with others at the time. If yoUr looking for  older it's a core to locate it.

But as I said "to me" so I can and will leave and let you guys carry on.

I can tweak all these issues. Leaving only hours after the site is up seems a little rash but best of luck to you.

dgtracy, the signature is set to show only on the topic starters first post but I think I can change it.

Most of the settings are the default so please give me your suggestions and I can work with you.

Hi Bill,

thanks for all you do with the site! Just a few questions: are some of the forums still being transferred over, i.e. Women's' health, buddies, success stories? I haven't located them yet. Also, when replying on my iPad, the screen keeps jumping up and down so that I can't see what I am typing half the time. Makes replies difficult. Anybody else with this issue? Again, thanks for all you do to help keep all of us connected!

All the forums are there. The home page just shows the recent posts. To view all the forums click on Forums on the top menu bar and choose Directory. You can also see all the forums on the home page (Home on the top menu bar).

As for the jumping screen, I am not sure about that. I have not encountered it here, but on a number of other sites periodically I do. I believe it is due to the page still loading while you are attempting another layered task, like a signal lag. So, check your connection speed (not just strength). Another thing to check is your system resources on your iPad. If you have a lot of apps running in the background, it can make your device glitchy and run the battery down prematurely. Double click the home button to see what apps are open and running. Then, swipe them up to close them. Sometimes I have 10-20 apps running without realizing it!

Rebecca, I am not sure I understand your question, but I will try to answer it. If you want to see all the forums (not just the most active ones), you go to forums and there is an option to click on to "see all forums." Topics are the same as what we would call "threads" before. The most recent posts to any topic will show up in the list on most pages here. You can choose to follow specific topics and you will be emailed or alerted when there are replies. Or just check the recent activity. If it is an older post you are looking for, you need to go to the forum it is in and scroll down the list of topics, just like with the other format.

Did the old forums allow for crawling and indexing by search engines? The new ones certainly do. I have a number of google alerts which now arrive with lots of links to forum articles. These only started showing up after the change. If this is a change in behaviour, and is one that is desired, it is wise to inform people that their discussions can now appear in google (or Bing, DuckDuckGo etc.) searches.
