I cut out eating fruit in general since the sugar content I can no longer do but just curious who eats watermelon. I was always told not to eat it due to it can cause blockages since it bulks back up to true form. I ate it a lot though after surgery and never had issues so wonder who else was able to. I love the stuff to death ;-)

I am fine as long as I chew...and do not go too low down into the rind...I also differenciate between watermelon that is what we call 'pasty' and 'juicy'...the juicy is fine, the pasty will block me up and no telling which is which until you open the melon up.
I eat tons of different kinds of melons....the one that does cause me a problem is cantelope...even when I chew well it blocks my tube (I can eat it in a smoothie).
By the way frozen watermelon smoothies are great and pose no risk.

A hand blender is my best friend. Mine comes with a deep quart-sized cup. Any fruits of veggies that are a problem for me, I put in the cup and blend the daylights out of. Add ice for the fruits, add herbs and spices for the veggies. Miracle. I can eat them (in small quantities at first).
I just made a pumpkin puree to die for. Am eating it a little at a time (about 3 tbls per serving because it is a bit thickening)...I like it with parmasean (sp?) cheese on it and fresh pepper. I can never eat it otherwise.
Same with all squashes.

I love watermelon and don't really want to give it up if/when I get a k-pouch! It definitely bulks things up, which is why I eat before going out! I'm not so sure it would cause a blockage though, unless you don't chew too well or eat the whiter part.

Honestly, so far nothing the nurses told me to stay away from has caused me any problems. I haven't tried meat skins or nuts though.
