Depends on which nutritionist you speak to and which decade the studies come from....

Some say that if you drink during meals you dilute the food and the digestive process....others suggest 2 large glasses of water just before the meal to wash out your stomach and open up your digestive tract...

No one that I know of suggests drinking right after the meal. That leads to a lot of bloating and burping.

Just a note.. .I am talking about water and not pop or alcohol....some say that ice water is bad for you but personally I love it...pop boats you and other than wine most beers and hard liquor can do the same. Wine can help digestion but too much will give you the runs... (like grape juice)

Ps... I had diet Coke with dinner in a restaurant last night (very rare) and was uncomfortable all night

This isn't likely to have anything to do with your J-pouch. We vary a lot in how our stomachs function, so I'd suggest doing whatever is most comfortable for you, as long as you're drinking enough water overall. If you're struggling to gain weight, water before or during a meal may further reduce your food intake.

Yeah, I drink what I want, when I want; with food, after food, before food. without food, water, tea, fizzy pop/soda, milk, fruit juice, cordials such as Robisons Barley Water or Vimto

Although, I've not drank alcohol since takedown but I very rarely drank alcohol before J pouch, not technically teetotal, just rarely drink alcohol, although I don't foresee any problem if I do.

If you are having difficulty with controlling frequency, it is generally recommended to limit fluids with meals. Mainly, it can help delay emptying of the stomach if you limit fluid intake with the meal. This may help slow digestion. This does not mean no fluids.

This is mostly true early on before your pouch adapts. A year or so down the road things are less volatile.

Thanks Jan. I have had a j-Puch originally about 15 years then because of blood clot in my stomach, had reversal two more times a few years ago. Have been living on antibiotics because of on going problems, have stopped antibiotics and doing well, thus far, also taking probiotics. My problem is some accidents during the night, just thought the water was making things worse for me?? Thanks again and God Bless, so hope you are doing well.
