I'm trying to figure out if I had a blockage, a bug, or the start of pouchitis. I started having watery stools and urgency, as well as cramping, but no fever and no aches, so not the regular symptoms of pouchitis. I went to liquid diet and it felt better, but not totally. Then when I started taking Pepto Bismol, I felt a lot better.
Would Pepto Bismol help with symptoms of a blockage, or would that indicate more of a stomach bug? I'm feeling better now, but not totally out of the woods yet. If I was on a liquid diet and took Pepto, then I could see it helping, if it was a blockage. However, if I had regular food in my system, and it was a blockage, I would think the Pepto would make it worse. One thing I've learned over time is that I can develop pouchitis and bacterial buildup from blockages (whether the blockage is due to a blocked path or it actually damages the intestinal wall or pouch wall).
Thanks.
