My dad has Crohns disease and Colonic inertia- Colonic inertia, also known as slow transit constipation, is a condition that occurs when the colon moves stool too slowly or weakly. This can lead to infrequent bowel movements and chronic constipation.

SHorty story: My dad and I went to a colon surgeon almost 8 years ago where he did a colonic inertia test and he failed it miserably!!! Laxatives did not work on him or anything. The colon surgeon said that we can divert his ileostomy and make it a loop ileostomy so that he can keep his colon/rectum in place. I always had a bad feeling about him keeping his colon/rectum in place- I challenged the doctor and many doctors after tha: why keep his colon/rectum intact when my dad is going to have a permanent ileostomy anyway??? It made no sense! Many doctors did not agree with me so my dad and i went through hell for many years with his colon/rectum being left there. His colon often bled causing ulcers, infections, and bleeding (low hemoglobins), so much diversion colitis!!! He always vomitted after we used an enema to clean out his bowels.  There are a lot of colonic inertia people that get their colon/rectum removed and get a bag or a j-pouch due to colonic inertia. I am not sure why all these doctors gave us hell about not removing the colon/rectum.

My dad and i saw this video together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXLo2CwGoGc and that is when we decided we are not going to give up in trying to find a surgeon that will remove his colon/rectum. We scheduled an appointment months ago with a woman surgeon and she did not give us a hard time about anything, she was on board right away!!! We got surgery clearance from Pulmonary and cardiology!!! He had his surgery two days ago!!! No more colon/rectum and he has an end ileosotmy.

The surgery took 10 hours!!! My dad's colon had scar tissue, tennis ball sized poops stuck in his colon, and a very small anal hole!!! Please do not ignore an unused colon/rectum, or a unused J-pouch. Follow your heart like we did.

I want to make this clear as well: My dad does not have a barbie butt, the surgeon said: everyone needs to have their rectal cuff checked out, that is mandatory!!! Cancer can still develop there since we have a rectal cuff. The only way to avoid not getting anal check ups is to get a barbie butt and be done with it. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE YOUR RECTAL CUFF!!!!

My dad is doing fine!!!

God Bless!!!

Lauren, you and your dad are a true team. You have both been through so much, but hopefully your dad will have an easier time of it now that he has an ileostomy. I hope he will be more comfortable once he recovers from that marathon 10 hr. surgery. Best wishes to both of you. --Rose--

Thank-you so much Rose!!! This disease has definitely kicked our asses, literally haha!

He is in the hospital now, we are hopefully going home tomorrow, I hope!

Thank-you for your best wishes love!

@Lauren Of Emerald City Oh, the horror, what a nightmare you describe in your post. It seems nothing short of miraculous that your dad is "doing fine". YIKES! The surgeon is to be heartily commended, and the surgical team, no doubt, but the real heroes are you and your dad for continuing to advocate for what you knew needed to be done and finding a surgeon who was on board and capable of such an extraordinary surgery. I hope your dad continues to heal well from the 10 (!) hour surgery and feels a lot, lot better soon. I hope you can rest easier knowing your dad is finally going to be okay. Well done, you, both of you.
