I have a prescription for VSL as a treatment for pouchitis (VSL DS). I can't say it has been all that effective for pouchitis as I still have issues every so often. However, I do take it regularly. I think it has helped with gas and bloating, which used to be a real problem for me. Now my innards are quiet as a church mouse.

I don't know of a good place to get a deal on VSL. If you can get a prescription and it is covered by your insurance - as it is for me - then the cost is fairly minimal. Otherwise it is going to be relatively expensive. On the other hand, on a per/cfu basis the cost is on par with other probiotics like Align. Something to keep in mind.
I love and swear by VSL#3DS. It may not work for some, but it has certainly helped me.It is worth trying if you can. I do not get pouchitis when I take it regularly. I did get a little bloated and gassy the first week or so on it, but that went away. It is a bit expensive and if you have insurance, most RX plans will help with the cost--you do have to have an RX of VSL#3DS though. Best of luck and hope it works for you if you start up on it!
Hi Lizzie, I've been trying to get my insurance co to cover the Vsl ds, no luck, my drs office told me to go to this website (Nord.org) It's an organization for rare disorders, they help people with problems, one of which is helping with Rx, I'm in the process right now, waiting on paper work. Give it a shot. The phone number is 203-744-0100 ext 266. Cathy. All the Glory is Gods
