My doc has given me a sript for VSL3#ds. I have seen many threads; however, I do not see where "our community" buys the drug at the cheapest prices. Please help!!

Your first step is to see if your health plan will cover it, since it is prescription only. That would give you your best price.

Jan,
Thanks for answering me. My insurance only pays $500 a year total on all my meds. I blow through that within a few months. So it doesn't make a difference to me if I go through my insurance or not.

If insurance isn't a factor you're likely to find it pretty expensive. Perhaps it's worth comparing prices at different pharmacies, though I don't know if they will differ. I'd also recommend comparing to the single strength (non-prescription) price, which is half as much probiotic (per packet) of exactly the same stuff.
Wow, I'd be shopping for new insurance!! I would blow through $500 benefit in about 2 days. My Simponi alone is $2500/month....
Have you considered other probiotics?

The cheapest place I found was at the local Costco. Make sure where ever you buy it keeps it refrigerated. Of the eight pharmacies I checked out, only two knew to keep it refrigerated.
It made a huge difference for me. I hope it helps you too!

I get 2 boxes, or 40 servings, for $185 from Walgreens. I save some money as that is the insurance adjusted price. We have a large deductible so I'm paying for it until I pass it. BTW it comes refrigerated from them. It takes them a day or two to get it in when I order it as they don't keep it on hand.
I apy a $50.00 co-pay for a 30 day supply. I see the price without insurance from Rite Aide is $190.00.
I'm lucky that way with my insurance. I get two boxes, 30 in each box for 60 packets for only $10.00. YES Ten Dollars.
Oh Poo...why has your doctor asked you take VSL? My surgeon, who is quite well known, has told me multiple times that in his experience VSL does nothing to prevent pouchitis. He has more than 20 years of experience with j-pouches. I still take it because my insurance pays for them but if I had to shell out a significant amount to get them I would be more skeptical of their effectiveness. He told that when VSL came out there was a lot of excitement and hope about it preventing pouchitis but it is essentially useless. And, it's inventor has just done a very good PR job in pushing it.
