Does anyone else experience burning stool when taking vitamins?
I got my J pouch 15 years ago. I know that calcium and D are very very important for bone health (and more). Unfortunately, I can't take them because I experience bad burning & looser than normal stool. It happens quickly after the 1st dose and just gets worse. I
As was expected, because I didn't take calcium and D, I ended up with osteoporosis.
My question? If others out there have the same vitamin/burning poop problem, please share your advice with me.
Thank you, Laury

I'm sorry. I've never heard of this before. Are you taking a high quality form of calcium that is easily absorbed? Maybe you could try taking your calcium with magnesium and zinc. Mag and Zinc help your body process the calcium more easily. Also, here is an article that I found from Harvard's website:

Acid rebound - Calcium carbonate may cause acid rebound: the stomach overcompensates for the high dose of calcium carbonate, which is alkaline, by churning out more acid. For that reason, people with a history of stomach ulcers are advised that they may not tolerate it and may have to switch to calcium citrate.

This "acid rebound" might be why you are experiencing the burning. Here is the site where I got that information:

As for the Vitamin D, make sur you are taking vitamin D3 instead of D2. Make sure you are taking it in the powdered form in lower doses. Try taking it with some Omega 3 fats. As fish oil can sometimes upset your stomach, I would recommend Virgin Coconut Oil or Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I hope this helps.

COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS: You can also get plenty of Vitamin D from 15 to 20 minutes a day in the sun. Also, try taking your vitamins with food. And don't take them early in the morning when your acid production is high.
