Does your doctor recommend liquid or chewable vitamins? I just started taking liquid vitamins/minerals since my small intestine has been shortened so much.

Coming out of J Pouch surgery what was recommended to me was Flintsones chewables for adults. Currently I take the Centrum Silver adult chewables. In addition I take a chewable calcium/vitamin D supplement. I also take a vitamin D gelcap that has 4000 iu daily, this due to my vitamin D levels being "on the cusp of what is acceptable", according to my Doc. My level is 30 which is not super duper low but it was low enough that he didn't like it.
I also take Equate chewable fiber supplement tablets, sugar free which are similar to metamucil chewable fiber tablets.

Good to know CTBarrister! I asked my doc today and he said regular were fine. . . but I disagree. I'll stick to liquid for now. But, a D supplement is interesting. Also, a chewable C might be a good thing to do. Thanks again. Sally
I take One a Day gummy vitamins. I have never liked taking vitamins until I started taking them.
i currently take two drops of vitamin D and a probiotic capsule of 30 billion cfu daily, when i started taking them, i was taking four drops a day, my vitamin D level was at 16 which is super low
You might want to try Forvia. It's specifically made for people with IBD and reduced ability to absorb vitamins from gastrointestinal surgery. It's the only vitamin I've ever taken (pre- and post-pouch) that I could actually feel a difference. My joints worked better and I had better energy. It comes in tablet or chewable form.

I take a centrum for men, pill form. Haven't had any issues with blockages or seeing undigested pill come out the other end.
If you've only had the j-pouch surgery your small intestine hasn't lost much. Shouldn't be enough to cause issues. If you've lost more to crohn's or similar, obviously a different story.

Thank you! Kathy, Forvia sounds perfect as I have short bowel syndrome. I'm surprised I was never told of it my doctors. This site is great!!!
I take 25 regular vitamins a day and have follicullar lymphoma probabaly because of ulcerative -colitis crohns. No problems with vitamins.
Vit D is so important. So many of us don't get the right amount of Vut D- either we don't get into enough sunlight, or else we cover up/ wear sunscreen as we are all so scared of skin cancer.
Vit D deficiency can cause a lot of things besides brittle bones so we should all be ensuring we get enough, those of us who have had steroid therapy are also more likely to be deficient.

I take a liquid multivitamin, minerals and 5000 IU of vitamin D. Adding this to my diet increased my daily endurance levels and health.
