Was really suffering with bad diarrhea.. pouch was in a bad way. so I was on waiting list for permanent ileostomy. Then I read an article on "goop" and ordered a book called Medical Medium. I have tried all antibiotics, all diets ( paleo, keto, ibd diet etc but not look, probiotics etc )

Ammonia permeability. Lack of hydrochloric acid and a simple way to help this is to drink celery juice on empty stomach each morning. I haven't eaten eggs or meat for 3 days now to reduce ammonia production and my pouch emptying has reduced from 20 to about 4 times a day and not once last night!!

I cannot believe it! This is the exact opposite to what I have been doing for ages.

16 ounce glass of fresh celery juice (v important on its own) each morning. I cannot believe it! The diarrhea and fat malabsorption was really bad, always feeling like it never emptied properly. Always feeling like pouch was really inflamed. But now perfect! 4/5 times a day compared to 20+. Cut out dairy, fermented foods and eggs and only a little meat once a day. Its something to do with the ammonia permeability.

What I cannot believe is that its the exact opposite of what I have been doing! I really hope that it works for others!

I never could get on the non dairy train - I tried  - years ago - not really for the pouch, just thought it was not good for me.  It may not be, but I like a glass of milk and eggs a lot.  I was really interested in the celery juice idea....if it really does do some type of "cleansing" in terms of who knows what is pumped into our bodies in terms of chemicals, additives, etc. - but I did wonder - hmmm - how much is that much celery juice gonna cost me?  I hope hear more about it and maybe try to incorporate it just a few days a week if I can afford it!  Do you know one thing I can eat that really slows things down yet does not stop me up?  Milk Duds.  I kid you not - so, so bad for me, but for some reason the sugar in them does not bother me (and it does in many other things) and it seems to be my form of Metamucil or whatever.  Not healthy - but I go on kicks with them because they make my GI slow and they don't hurt.  Go figure (never mind the dental bills they will probably cost me....)  What's another crown in a mouthful?

she's not, it was an article about a health book. I had really bad steatorrhea, the vegan diet (basically reduces animal fat) has done wonders for my diarrhea. my pouch was really erratic, sometimes not feelings like it was emptying properly etc. But now I eat avocado, use coconut and olive oil etc. and I am feeling great!  I eat lots of vegetables, fruit, quinoa, oats etc and take celery juice in the morning.

Glad it's working for you! The celery juice is intriguing, though I'm naturally wary of anything celebrity endorsed. I doubt I could ever go the non dairy or eggs route, though. I'm essentially vegetarian and have been for the last 3 or 4 years, I phased meat out gradually. I do occasionally eat fish but I eat virtually no meat. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, peanut butter, chick peas, and eggs pretty have pretty much become staples in my diet as far as protein goes. My pouch function and frequency are mostly fine. For me, it turns out that one of the foods that was most bothersome for my digestion was beef, although it actually took me a while to figure that out. My pouch function generally improved after I began eliminating meat and white pasta from my diet, and paying more attention to added sugar.  Incidentally, I now also eat a lot of avocados, though I can't say for certain if they play any role. My pouch function also improved after I started taking Align and turmeric regularly about 2 and a half years ago. Again, it's hard to say specifically what helped, but I suspect it's probably the combination of changes I made over time. Whatever works for us, I guess!

Whatever works - all good suggestions - I eliminated meat for the most part - but every once in awhile I eat some as I feel like my body is just in need of it.  I always mean to try turmeric for all the benefits.

I'm no Paltrow fan and especially dislike her site GOOP - but, she does have a lot of good information regarding healthy living, diets ,etc.- some of it is extreme - and some  ridiculously expensive -but if this woman found celery juice on GOOP and it helped her, then that is fantastic!
