Looking for any info for Vegans that have a J-Pouch. So far in here, other websites and Facebook I find very little real info besides people saying it works and maybe a few token lines on experience.

I swapped to Vegan due to philosophical issues, so I am going to figure out a way to make this work no matter what (couldn't be any harder than trying to cure myself with anything and everything before I had surgery).

Even if you are not fully vegan, if you have some vegan recipes you love please let me know.

As a trade, in however months or years it takes to fine tune this, I am going to share all I learned along the way. Keeping a daily-ish log.

This is my second time going vegan. First was to cure UC but that was not the ticket. We are going on day 2 here.

Going back to it, as one of the 5 Buddhist lay vows I took is no lying, and that means not to myself either to me, which is why I am in this for the long haul.

That is great Before my 5 years of being a vegetarian, I failed countless of times but I never gave up trying- as of right now, I have not failed in over 5 years. What helped me make it to over 5 years was: I kept believing in myself and kept reminding myself of my love for animals

Always remember the day that you became vegetarian/vegan that way you can reward yourself over the years!

And cool, I looked up the 5 Buddhist lay vows and they look lovely. I love the one that says "refrain from killing". A lot of people do not realize that when they eat meat they are partaking in the killing of animals. I am glad you realize that. Its soo nice to meet another vegetarian on here <3

How long did you make it in veganism for your first time around???

I went Vegetarian for 6 months, then when that was not working upgraded to Vegan for 8 Months. Which also didn't work at the time, but was also to appease a girlfriend, which is not the right source of motivation at all for such a change.

And I am wanting to go vegan for a few reasons. The concern of all the suffering that industry puts animals through, and the concept that I feel that energy passes into me when I eat that food. What is interesting is having gone vegan, my movements in the restroom have if anything gotten better. Maybe too early to tell, but it is curious.

Happy to run into you here as well. On the Facebook J-Pouch page the responses I get so far not exactly supportive, as a lot of people seem to have a hard time with the J-Pouch itself and anything beyond that is not worth the work.

Little over a week with J-Pouch and being Vegan.

Results so far:
~Digestion is on par at times and then better other times compared to when I was eating meat & dairy. Never worse so far.
~Heat regulation is 100% better. I work in a hot area and would have to keep the fan on me every day, no matter if other people thought it was cold or not. I have not needed a fan at work since almost right when I stopped eating meat & dairy.

Had to get a multivitamin, calcium supplement and B-12. If more is needed I will not know until I have blood work done. But I would need a calcium supplement anyways as Prednisone gave me pre-osteoporosis.

Sorry for the late reply, I missed the notification! Sorry!

And Yeah I am not surprised that you have received some negativity on the Facebook J-pouch page, anything that involves people in it, there is going to be some literal buttheads around. Do not let them get you down.

I wonder why the vegetarian diet was not working, in what ways was the vegetarian diet not working???

Wow, those are amazing results!!! I eat a lot of vitamin enriched cereals. I take iron, calcium, and vitamin D suppplements- after 5 years I think its pretty normal to have to take that.

Yeah prednisone is annoying, it does wonders but it comes with side effects.

Did not resolve the Ulcerative Colitis symptoms I was having. I never got to figure out what would really fix it, as I had surgery forced due to Prednisone starting to fail to work and there being nothing left medication wise for maintaining remission.

Some quick things to share.

Garden of Life makes vegan supplements. Taking Organic Plant Calcium & Mens Multi.
Also taking Jarrow Formulas Methyl B-12/Methyl Folate.

For fiber I use something made from Acacia. RenewLife Organic Clear Prebiotic.

For smoothies, Sunwarrior Protien Warrior Blend Vanilla.

Amy's has amazing vegan stuff now. I can confidently say their vegan mac&cheese tastes better than any "real" mac and cheese I have ever had.

The fake loose cheeses you can buy are good.  Daiya, and Follow your Heart are two brands I have found so far that work well. They do melt on the vegan pizzas I can get at Sprouts/Whole Foods.

I have not found a vegan butter that is not good, of the ones currently available. They are all tasty so far on bread or using in stir frys I have tried.

Del Taco has has Beyond Burger tacos and burritos that are vegan when without cheese and sour cream. They are proud to have vegan options.
Carl's Jr also has a burger that is vegan without cheese, but I find the staff tend to like putting mayo on it, so be careful where you order it. I think it is just bad employees, as I don't get this issue at Del Taco.
Taco Bell can make a lot of things Vegan, but I have not ordered there since going vegan.

Grocery Outlet tends to have a lot of random vegan options. Good place to check out.

Digestion is still better, and so far is improving since going vegan. I was probably having an issue with dairy, but not sure totally as I went cold turkey all at once with my diet.

I definitely understand that! I think most people on here failed prednisone too- I failed Uceris in addition to prednisone at the same time along with other medications. Have you ever done biologics like Remicade??? I never did biologics.

Wow, you are on top of the game I see! Yeah I love Amys Mac and Cheese, it is soo delicious!!! Too bad her food can be expensive lol. Have you ever tried "Sunbutter"??? I am not sure if that is vegan but it is delicious! And she has vegan pot pies too, soo yummmmy!

Have you noticed an increase in BMS since going vegan???

I totally agree, a lot of employees are very careless about keeping meat and veggie burgers separate. That is the reason why I do not order vegetarian/vegan ,meat in restaurants, it scares me how some employees are not extra careful with our morals. I heard about food places messing up a few times, pretty scary!

Aye, I was on something similar to Remicade, Humira, immunosuppressive drugs, you name it. They ran out of things for me to try, which is why I had to do surgery. UCSF had some trial med I could have tried that was the same mechanism of action as what I already tried, so I skipped that as there was no point.

Bowel movements are less than before I went vegan. I hardly get up at all at night now.

I see you tried a lot of stuff! I skipped biologics, I felt like if i tried biologics it would just be putting off the inevitable imo. I was 22 when I had the surgery.

And wow cool! I see you have a lot of benefits with your veganism! I think I go about the same compared to my meat days. In a 24-hour period I can go around 15 or up. I had my pouch for almost 6 years and been vegetarian for over 5 years and never had pouchitis! Vegetarian and vegan diets have a lot of probiotics in it so I think it helps us not get pouchitis. There is a lot of benefits which is great!

How many bowel movements are you having now and what was it before???

Today I brought some "Annie's Vegan Mac & Cheese" They were on sale for 2 for $5. It is way cheaper than "Amys". I have not tried it yet but its on sale at Target in the Mac and Cheese section. I brought two today but I have not tried it yet, looks pretty good!
