Vaginal Delivery?

I'm 23 and currently 6 years post takedown. I'm also 37 weeks pregnant. I consider myself lucky getting pregnant on the first try

my miracle baby. Anyways, I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my J pouch which is why I've elected to attempt a vaginal delivery. My OB wasn't concerned with my choice. I discussed this with my surgeon and his main concern was tearing. I still have my anal sphincter intact and haven't had any problems with leakage since my recovery. I guess I'm just hoping to hear other successful vaginal delivery stories and asking the personal question of if you had any tearing and if so, did it effect anything with your pouch or anal sphincter?

Vaginal tears heal quite well post partum. The docs at Cleveland Clinic site concerns regarding sphincter damage from the stretching during vaginal delivery as the issue, not tearing. Even that is not an immediate concern, but something to consider as you age.

I had 4th degree lacerations from a vaginal delivery years before my j-pouch surgery. That was in 1987 and my j-pouch was in 1995. So far, I have had no continence issues, even though I also have cystocele and rectocele that are related to that vaginal delivery. I am almost 59 now, so we will see if things hold up as I age.

There are risks any way you go. Plus, you can plan for a vaginal delivery and still wind ip with a c-section, since there are many obstectrical reasons for it. Happened to me with my first pregnancy.

The point? There is no perfect answer. Just go with your best judgement at the time. Bottom line, you come home as a family!

I would also like to know how your delivery went! I'm also planning a vaginal delivery for our 2nd, our first was natural as well but that was before surgery.

Well all, I had my daughter via vaginal delivery at 3:35 pm on July 8th

I did end up having a partial 3rd degree tear because she was sunnyside up and got stuck under my pelvic bone. I pushed for close to 3 hours. Although I did tear and am still healing, I have not had any incontinence even though they have me taking both a laxative and stool softener. I know that's not much to say about what will happen when everything's all healed up, but I am still happy with my choice to do a vaginal delivery and don't have to deal with another incision.

Congrats Tiffany, I'm so glad to hear your delivery went well!! This makes it easier for me to try to go that route, I hate the thought of another surgery, I've had a c section before for twins and it stinks...hopefully I can deliver this time! Thanks for sharing!

Congratulations. .. I have 4 children three born post takedown. My one piece of advice is once you are healed pay attention to the strength and health of your vaginal wall. I am going through surgery for a 3rd stage prolapsed bladder which has caused allot of renewed problems with my jpouch after 15 years

so stay strong and do those kegals
