Urine retention after j pouch surgery

So after my second stage 'j pouch surgery and loop ileostomy formed' when the catheter came out I kept wetting myself.. This has now slowed down and I only notice specs of wee on my underwear which I have to wear pads for. However I have noticed I am now struggling to go wee which I am concerned about. I am weeing but very small amounts and it is quite a struggle. My surgeon told me This is all perfectly normal due to having such a big operation and it is due to bruising
