hello again

so its just under 3 weeks since I had j pouch surgery (stage 2 of 3)

on the whole recovery has gone ok, not been easy but it seems all the pains etc. that I have are normal

however last few days I have been retaining urine and struggling to pee.

I a relatively young and fit male so this is a bit of a concern to me.

I can get erections etc. and I can pee sometimes just not easily.

I saw the surgeon and a urologist and they think its just bruised nerves from the surgery and retention probably built up over time.

For now I am self catheterising which is very unpleasant but they are optimistic things will go back to normal in time.

I would just like a bit of reassurance from anyone on here that may have experienced this?

I had the same problems after stage 2 but it passed after a few weeks, I'm 56 male. Look at the other threads here on Loop Ileostomy for more re assuring info, unfortunately loop ileos are notoriously troublesome but in no way is that an indication of problems with the functioning of the new pouch when connected.

I am a female but am only about two months post take down and am also having the same problem. It has been going on since right after my takedown. It is a huge struggle to pee but if I sit on the toilet long enough I can usually go, but it takes a while. The doctors don't say much about it, but it doesn't seem normal to me....I hope it just works itself out once I am more adjusted to my j pouch.
I'm a 45 year old female and have been having the same problem. I had to be catheterized a couple of times after my first surgery. I don't require catheters now but I need to sit on the toilet and shift positions numerous times before completely emptying my bladder (it may take 10-15 min). I am 8 weeks post takedown and still having trouble. Many times I also get severe pain when urinating. My surgeon doesn't know what is causing this. I just had a pouch endoscopy under local anesthesia but they just called me today and want to do a more in depth study under general. It's scheduled for June 25th so hopefully they figure this out. It's horrible. I have read several posts where people have had similar problems up to 6 months and then their bodies healed. Hopefully this will be the case for both of us.
