Updated J-pouch Statistics

I haven't looked up any stats recently. My surgeon told me the j pouch has a 95% success/satisfaction rating but I don't remember if that was in general or just among his patients. My j pouch is a success and so is my sister's and my uncle's. So pretty good odds for one family!

You might want to check hospital by hospital...national rates may vary according to the medical facility and the surgeon/team responisble...I know that here they do a sort of academy awards for the best hospitals, surgeons etc including sanitary conditions, post op infection rates, and then specialty surgeries etc...not sure if that exists back home or not but it is a really good listing system that guides patients to certain hospitals or doctors (or away from them)...

Well - I am looking mainly at Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic....so any stats for those would be best! =)

Yeah they are good places Gleam - I see that you did your procedure in March. Where did you go? How are you doing now?

I went to Cleveland Clinic Weston and had Dr. Steven Wexnar perform the surgery. Honestly, it's a very long road to normalcy and I am not at the point yet where I can say the surgery, pain, and hoops I had to jump thru were worth it. The memories are too fresh and my body has not fully adjusted yet.

The pros are that since returning to work mid November I have not called in sick once! By this time without surgery I would have called in 2.5-3 weeks worth. So in that regard there are positives.

I work for AT&T, my job is very active climbing telephone poles, digging small holes, squatting, twisting, bending. My biggest complain is bending over and squatting makes me need to use the bathroom. That and gas is causing urgency.

I will say another positive is that as time goes by things are improving slowly.
