Just had a colonoscopy and my GI stated I had a bad ulcer on my Jpouch. I also have a fissue. He said I would need to have my Jpouch redone or surgery in near future. I am scared. I have had a Jpouch for 25 years. Has anyone had this issue? I am having a MRI enterography done Tuesday to take a closer look at things. I am hoping he can try some medications to get the ulcer under control but not sure if this is possible. Has anyone had a big ulcer and medications have actually helped it?

Wow! You actually had a colonoscopy? Do they have any explanation for the ulcer? I'm not familiar with that; I've had my J-pouch for 17 years. I had a fistula repaired as a day-surgery procedure a few years after my takedown.

Do you have a fissure or a fistula? If it is a fistula, that is the reason you may need surgery. It is not uncommon to have a pouch ulcer as the presentation of pouchitis, so typical pouchitis treatments are usually prescribed for that.

I agree with Jan. I always have ulcers in my pouch. I've never been told I need to remove my pouch due to this. A fistula, however, almost always requires surgery but not necessarily jpouch removal. I also have fissures.
