i feel like everything i say is so graphic! ok here we go. i am about 3 months past the surgery when they hooked up the j-pouch. for the last couple weeks i have been losing my mind with the itching and burning i have at all times of the day. when i have a bm i cant get the tp fast enough to whip. i get very shaky as i grab the tp and find myself letting a grunt out. then more comes out. ugh! then right away it happens again. within 3 seconds i start shaking bad again and whistling or something as i am grabbing more tp... but yea i guess that wasnt TOO graphic... i try to use cortizone cream, or vaseline or baby powder, i use the contenelle flushable fresh care wipes. i also have been applying gold bond medicated anti itch cream. which helps the longest out of all but still at max 30 or so minutes. i know of course to call doctor. and yes i have. i was told these things do happen and to do these things i have been as they should get better. next appt. is july 10, 2013. ANY advice is very much appreciated!! has anybody had similar symptoms? and what helped???

ps sorry for spelling errors and if i lost my train of thought. like i said i feel like i am losing my mind. gotta stay positive! Smiler

Sounds like a fungal infection. You may want to try over the counter fungal cream, like miconazole or chlortrimazole. Rubbing and scratching may feel good at first, but it also perpetuates the itch. Don't use dry toilet paper, but paper moistened with water. Commercial wipes can be bad too as they can contain alcohol and fragrances that are irritating. Plain water is best.

Gwar,

I have an ongoing issue with this due to some constant minor inflammation in my cuff. I use benadryl cream and cortisone cream for the itch (the doctor can even prescribe a cortisone cream). I also use vaseline often as that is soothing although it is best used as night as it can be sticky. Also stay away from the wipes and water is best. Use a squirt bottle if you can find at the supermarket( an old fashioned plastic condiment bottle works fine). Fill it with warm water and rinse as much as possible after you empty the pouch before wiping. Finally, warm baths seem to soothe the burn and itch.
