UC and Thyroiditis

Hello all,

I am 4 years post takedown from UC, and with the exception of a bout with pouchitis late last year, I have basically been perfect (knock on wood!).

My doctor ran a thyroid panel during a check up in January and it was irregular. She ran a follow up last week, and said I had hypothyroidism, and that because of antibodies in the blood, it looks like it is auto-immune related. She diagnosed thyroiditis and put me on meds today.

So my question is-- is this connected to my UC? Or to my prednisone use? I had UC for almost 10 years before my surgery, and was on and off prednisone that whole time (more on than off, unfortunately). Anyone else who has had issues with this, please let me know.

Autoimmune hypothyroidism is common in the general population. Having other autoimmune disorders increases your risk for others. Prednisone use was not your issue.
