I have read Tumeric is appropriate for Colitis. Any views on this?

I've been using it as a spice for years...haven't noticed and difference between the days that I eat it or not...but maybe I am not being vigilant.
I guess that as a supplement it couldn't hurt...

Tumeric is known in naturalist circles as an anti-inflammatory and an antiseptic. I say go for it. I was making my own little tumeric capsules for a while (you can buy the tumeric and gel caps at natural food stores). It saves money, but is time consuming. Taking tumeric is not going to hurt you and it may help.
Yes, there is merit for turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties, and some GIs now even recommend it to their patients. I've been taking it myself now for about 2 years, in capsule form and also in my cooking. I figure it can't hurt.
I have read a lot about turmeric and it's anti-inflammatory benefits. I bought some capsules once too. I still have them and may try them again. I recently read an article by an MD who was treating an elderly man with bad arthritis and was amazed at how well he was doing taking turmeric on his own.
Thanks for all responses. About once a year I go through a flair up (inflamation) that is eased by a seven day decreasing regimen of prednisone. Seems as though a naturally occurring ingrediet that deals with inflamation may be appropriate. Any thoughts?
the dietitian i consult with said that the best brand, according to consumer lab.com is Jarrow formulas Curcumin 95
dosage: 2 500mg caps, twice a day.
i can't say it helped control the pouchitis, but i've got a bottle left over and will see if it helps my arthritis
Yes, my NYC GI recommended it for me years ago as part of my pouchitis treatment. I take it in a liquid form. Sometimes, I will take Zyflamend by New Chapter, which has tumeric. It's best to take with black pepper as it increases absorption.
I used to take turmeric tablets years ago when suffering from UC flare ups. not sure if it really did anything for me but no harm in taking it.
After some research on my part, it is my understanding that tumeric can increase your chances of internal bleeding if you are unable to take aspirin or ibuprofen.
Drugs.com has a decent, relatively authoritative article on turmeric.

It's relatively nontoxic, but apparently can stimulate menstruation and cause abortion. It seems that it's used to treat hemorrhage rather than causing it. And it may increase susceptibility to kidney stones.
Thanks Scott. I haven't ruled it out completely but am wary of it.
here's a short article on some research. some good news, but need for more testing
