Hi all,
My hub and I have been trying to conceive for 8 months now to no avail. Had a 3 step open j pouch surgery at Cleveland Clinic in 2012 (April, sept, done in dec). Have stayed healthy since, I think 3 bouts of pouchitis all which were cleared by normal antibiotics. I'm 27 and husband is 32. We don't know where to turn. My on/gyn doesn't seem to even know what a jpouch is, let alone understand the risk of infertility associated. When I saw her after 6 months of trying, she said try a year. Do I travel an hour away to Cleveland for a more informed doctor? Keep trying? Help! Frowner

I don't know if there's any harm in waiting, but probably what your ob/gyn is thinking that even "normal" people can take up to a year to conceive. They don't usually don't consider you to have an infertility problem until that point. So I could see you going to see a specialist and them telling you the same thing potentially, although of course considering your surgeries your odds of conceiving naturally are much lower - - might be worth going ahead and getting established with a more informed doc. Best wishes for you!
