Ok-- This is going to sound nuts. A friend told me about the New Yorker article and Terri Gross interview with Gary Shteyngart (author) about his chronic pain as a result of a botched circumcision in Russia when he was a child. He finally found relief by applying topical amitriptyline.
As some of you know, I've had chronic anal pain for years, recently worsened by Dr. Shen's banding procedure. I've been in substantial pain ever since I had it done back in June and nobody knows why. I will be scoped next month to see if there are any unhealed ulcers as a result of the banding. (The "E" word i.e. excision has been floated.)
Meanwhile, I'd like to try the topical amitriptyline but am struggling to figure out the right dosage and what to combine it with. (My doctor doesn't know.). Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know of a great compounding pharmacist who might know how to research it? Or a pharmacologic database where I could look?
Thank you!
Debbie
