Okay, folks. Beautiful day and I can't garden. Family (hubby, kiddos, student who lives with us) left on road trip this morning for the wedding of two very close friends tomorrow and, of course, I couldn't go. The external wound at the stoma closure has become infected and is painful today, in addition to all the other pain. And I managed to catch the summer cold going around. Sneezing after abdominal/anal surgery is NO FUN.

So. Time to count the blessings!
1. My parents. They drive me crazy sometimes, but they have also given up so much time and money in order to move in with us and help care for me and the girls.
2. My dog. He always does such a lovely happy dance when I come home from the hospital!
3. No shakes today. First time since the first procedure on June 26th!
4. Actimel. Love the stuff. Best source of diet-based probiotics I've found here. Doesn't make me run to the bathroom or upset my stomach.
5. Flowers. Our neighbours brought over a lovely bouquet yesterday, our hydrangeas are in full bloom, the sunflower Little Toot gave me for Mother's Day is gorgeous. Flowers make me smile.
6. The shower. Seriously. Being able to take a shower on my own after surgery is bliss.
7. Television reruns. I've been binge watching a couple of shows this past week while (basically) bedridden. Can't say it has raised my IQ level at all, but is has kept me from being too frantic about getting up and around again.
8. Hummus. Low-residue diet people rejoice: hummus gives FLAVOUR to sandwiches!!!!
9. Good books and book apps. Need I explain this one?
10. Puppy videos. My guilty pleasure, and guaranteed to make me smile, at least a little bit, once a day.

Cheers to all,
Gin

Hi Gin,
So happy for you that you have found some joy in post-op recovery time! You are a real champ!
Yes, I do remember that first shower...woohoo..I cheered myself on and loved every drop...never took a shower for granted again.
I missed a lot too with all of those darn surgeries including the last 'all inclusive' business weekends in some really great countries that hubby was invited to and family weddings for people I actually did like.
Be careful with that stoma infection, they can be very nasty...get it checked, get yourself on antibiotics immediately and do not waste time...(I will not list the possible problems if you do not...).
You sound great and that is the most important part...the rest is just...stuff.
Enjoy the summer, heal up and get strong and end this cycle.
Huge hugs
Sharon
Excellend post, Gin. I am SO glad to hear they were able to excise the fistula completely. Great news. And glad you are finding blessings to count at this point!

(BTW, I totally agree with you on the hummus. I actually began calling it my "daily medicine". Right now, it creates just enough gas to clear out the system Smiler)
