I have told the Professor of Surgery and an ET nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN about this site. I told them to check it out. I want them to see all the trouble with the J-pouch. They said they would, so I hope they are reading and seeing the J-pouch isn't the problem free surgery they think it is. The patient is left with the problems dealing with it and not getting a good nights sleep. I don't think it's as great as they think it is. I sleep all night with my Kock Pouch and learned to chew, chew, chew, and drink, drink, drink. Become an Advocate....promote this surgery to your doctors so other doctors are trained. We can't afford to lose the Kock Pouch in the future. There are Kock Pouches out there that don't come to this site because they don't have trouble. I came here because of harassment from my workplace, not trouble with my Kock Pouch. When I came to this site there wasn't a K-Pouch Korner, thanks to Bill, there is a place for us now. So many Kock Pouchers don't know about this site.....get the word out there. Become An Advocate!

Good idea Jasmine, but I don't think that any surgeons believe that the j-pouch is problem free. I think they believe it is the best option for most patients. It is truly unfortunate that the Kock pouch has sort of fallen by the wayside and so few surgeons are skilled in this procedure. We need as many choices as possible, as not everyone is a good candidate for a j-pouch.

I told Dr. Dozois about you Jan Dollar and Bill. So I hope they came here to see the J-pouch isn't the greatest surgery that they seem to think it is. I told them to read all the posts about problems with the J-pouch, and mentioned not sleeping all night and cuffitis. I also mentioned that I think they thought pouchitis was from the Kock Pouch.....not so, they need to do this operation everywhere. Let the patient decide, plus the cost of ostomy supplies is outrageous!!! I'm surprised insurance companies aren't pushing for the KocK Pouch. I only spend around $50.00 a year on my Kock Pouch for 2 catheters, that's it. Please everyone, talk about this site. They need to see the problems everyone is having and see there is a need for all options. Thank you!
