Hi,

Roughly a month and a half ago I had my first operation of three with the end result hopefully being a functioning j-pouch. After my operation I noticed I was eating alot more although it would be expected as I could barely eat without it going straight through me before due to the illnesses severity. However I have been eating like this for weeks now and its not slowing down I thought once I got my appetite back it would calm down but no im constantly hungry. I also have been tired alot and experiencing aches in my legs even with little to no excercise. I have heard its possible kids/teens with uc catch up with growth later than others is that true? Also does this sound like im growing or just getting back to normal. Only asking because its costing my parents an arm and a leg to keep me going haha.

Ross,
If you were extremely undernourished before the surgery due to the illness and are now getting your appetite back, yes, it is possible that you are finally getting your growth spurt...or at least normal growth...it is also possible that you are dehydrated as well and that is causing the pain in your legs/knees. Or it could be a bit of both but if you are in more than just mild pain or discomfort then you should still call your doctor.
You might also want to measure yourself monthly to see if in fact you are growing faster.

Thanks for your quick reply its just as im almost 17 ive lost hope I would grow but it had been pretty severe since I was 16 so I dont know. I was strictly ordered by my surgeon to take lots of fluids as he explained I would need more than the average person so I dont think its that . Yup the worst is definitely over haha hopefully next few ops go forward without too many hiccups.
