I am battling what has officially been the longest cold of my life. Came down with symptoms on Wednesday October 11, still have them today, Monday October 23. A 12 day cold. I am wondering if the Remicade weakening my immune system is the reason I can’t seem to shake this cold. Per my internet research most common colds last 3-7 days but sometimes as long as two weeks.
The symptoms seemed to peak the weekend of October 13-15, which was a preplanned vacation weekend. It probably didn’t help matters that I didn’t stay home and rest, but I was locked in to the trip and was traveling with others who were depending on me.
I was then out of work 4 of 5 Days last week. I felt good enough to go in Wednesday, October 18, but I then regressed.
This past weekend was more of the same but I stayed in, and rested. Back at work today, feeling a little better. Still coughing and sniffling and a somewhat achy head but I am better. Over the course of the last week my doctor gave me antibiotics, codeine cough syrup, mucinex. The antibiotics obviously were prescribed in case it was bacterial, it obviously wasn’t. The other stuff works okay in relieving symptoms.
Is this a sign that Remicade is suppressing the immune system and I can expect long laborious colds whenever the seasons change? In 2 years on Remicade never had a cold before.
