I haven't been on in a while but could use some advice. I just had my 12 year anniversary since the first j-pouch surgery. Woo-hoo!! For the most part, I live a fairly normal life. I avoid anything with fiber in it such as fruits, vegetables, grains, etc. But I do extremely well on starches. I have found that I can eat some fibrous foods if I make them myself such as salads. Just from experience of eating at salad bars versus eating the ones I make at home, I have come to the conclusion that processed foods and/or foods containing preservatives are the devil. LOL. I still struggle with losing all the weight I gained from being on the steroids so many years ago but mostly because starches wear off fast so I am always hungry and the inability to eat fruits and veggies like a normal person would on a diet.
What I really need advice on is whether to keep taking omeprazole (Prilosec) to reduce the acid. I have taken it all these years since the surgery and scared to stop. On those days when I have forgotten to take it, I always have yellowish stools and it burns so bad. Not to be too gross, but sometimes it is really frothy. I wonder because I don't hear of others taking acid reducers every day so is it something else? Should I be doing something differently? A glass of orange juice is horrendous and I suffer for days. I just don't think it is normal to be taking them all these years and I take a double dose of 40mg total each day. I worry there will be side effects as well.
My job requires me to sit at a desk for 10 hrs each day so butt burn is not an option to deal with.
Is there anyone else out there with the same issue and if so, what is your remedy?

Thank you in advance for your help. Have a blessed day. Smiler

I just started taking the "O" medication for reflux. Last month I thought I was having a heart attack.....elephant sitting on my chest symptom. My cardiologist checked me and said it is reflux. Actually, I thought reflux involved bringing up digestive fluid, etc. after eating. Not my symptoms. Just terrible pressure in the middle of my chest. Well, since taking the "O" med, I still have the reflux symptom described above but not to the extent I did a few weeks ago. I still need to take Tums, etc. to quell the symptoms. I, too, am twelve years post takedown.....this reflux is new to me. When told to stop drinking coffee, alcohol, etc. I rebelled! My pouch can tolerate anything! Guess my stomach can't even though I have no other symptoms. Recent upper endoscopy showed mild gastritis. Hmmmmmmm! Could it be my age????? 73!
