NG tube finally out!! It was a pretty violent exodus, though. It got stuck and she had to yank REALLY hard to get it out... detailed account to be included in my next blog post, but for now I'm just glad to finally get a bit of relief and am looking forward to a few hours of some solid sleep. Night all.
Yay glad it is out, get some rest!
bootstrap,
I did not want to post this before your NG tube came out, so as not to give you any inappropriate ideas, but when I had the NG tube I pulled it out myself because I could not take it any more. Fluids had ceased being sucked up the tube, my ileostomy bag was filling and I was feeling better and I did it sort of spontaneously. It came out pretty easily and certainly much more easily than it went in (it was inserted while I was vomiting and resisting, by a resident doctor with extensive NG tube insertion experience who physically overpowered me).
When the nurses at Mount Sinai Medical Center saw what I had done, I was read the riot act, but it was not reinserted because the ileus had passed and they knew it after examining me.
I am really glad to hear you are making progress after this extended recovery period. It should all be getting better from here. The NG tube insertion is always everyone's low point and that is now in your rear view mirror. You now have NG tube war stories like the rest of us, which you can tell to later generations.

I didn't want to mention either but I was on you tube watching all the videos on how to pull it out...I came close and begged every nurse and Dr. that came my way..and Bootstrap-congratulations this is a huge turning point. Time to recover. I'm confident you're on your way to getting your life back!!! Yay!!
Looks like you'll be home for Christmas! Yay!!!

I'm probably the only person on this list who actually semi-liked the NG tube experience (especially once I understood the procedure and why it was necessary). It provided immeasurable relief.
Anywho, getting it out is definitely a turning point. Time to normalize. Best wishes and jingle bells!

I agree Tincan.....I don't think I have ever experienced such relief as when they first suctioned out through the NG tube. Trouble is, that was immediately followed by the throat pain and gagging.
