Hi,

I hope your j pouch settles down and I’m sure it will in time!
Im about to go through the 2nd surgery, how did that one go for you? (Removal of rectum and creation of pouch)

I had a two step. Rectum removal and Pouch creation was a lot of pain honestly! But the doctors give you good pain meds and it makes you feel good

Hang in there! I'm a week out from takedown and I'm trying to eliminate some gas-causing foods by vaguely following the FODMAP diet, just temporarily while my insides heal and my pouch adjusts. It seems to be helping—I still have some gas discomfort, but it doesn't rise to the level of excruciating pain of the first few days post-takedown when I ate everything. Maybe it can help you a bit? This is a shot in the dark, but I thought it was worth suggesting. Stay strong!

Hello everyone,

I was discharged from the hospital.

Glad to be home but sad to being able to have dilaudid any longer.

ok so jpouch is working ok. I am eating small amounts right now so not to overwhelm my system.

It’s weird to think that there was a stoma at the incision site for 13 weeks  and now it’s gone, soon to be just a old memory.

I will everyone updated

When you feel the gas pains are they in your stomach or in your anus/butt?!

I am a week out now and I keep getting pained with these sensations in my anus/rectum/whatever is there like I need to relieve myself but I know it shouldn’t be time to go. I keep thinking if I could pass gas then the sensation would subside. I just clench down and wait for it to pass (usually like 10 seconds) anyone experience this?! It’s driving me crazy.

Yeah, things will get better, do not worry. TIME is the medicine. Some people take anxiety medicine for the spasms but I would give it time first since you are new.

You can also try bending over to touch the floor, I heard that works.

Takedown plus 10 days.

it’s been tough trying to regulate my body. I got no sleep sat night, diarrhea all night long

last night, ate last meal by 500 pm and slept most of the night

my question is. The area by the osteomy takedown is always in pain. I swear I can feel the stool and gas passing thru the surgical area at all times. I cannot take bentyl for other reasons.
Does this heal over time or do I need another anti-spasmodic and any recommendations ?

Yes it all heals over time. After my takedown I was constantly worried because it seemed like every few days I'd have some new weird feeling or symptoms. Then as soon as I started worrying about it they would go away and something new would start.

My advice is give it a few months and don't sweat things to much. It's a huge change to your body and it takes some time.

I'm about 6 months past takedown and I feel great. I work out every day and do what I want. It wasn't this way when I was 10 days out.
