Hi!

I am being treated for pouchitis but have had a very tough week with a very sore butt. I was in all-day meetings and the sore butt pain became so intense I had to leave the restaurant before my steak even arrived!

This pain is not an anal pain, per se, but a larger and general pain in the butt where I sit.

Has anyone else had this type of pain? Thank you for your comments.

Thanks. This week I was sitting all day long for meetings and it got pretty bad. I was only more comfortable laying down or taking a bath.

I was trying to figure out if it was because I have a pouchitis flare up or not, as I was up several times at night with spasms, pressure and small bowel movements.

ARGH! I'd like to get on with life!
Flagyl might help, you'd know within a day or two.

Hopefully, this is just a bad case of pouchitis, not an abscess. Especially this far out from surgery. Presacral is the pocket between the pouch and the lower spine. It is the most common site for infection following a pouch leak, because gravity causes it to settle there.

So nice to be able to talk with people who are familiar with what we're going through.

I'm on my second day of flagyl and we'll see what happens. And yes, I had an abscess after my first takedown (I've had two!) -- honestly similar area of pain, but that wouldn't even allow me to stand for more than a few quick minutes while the pain built up.
i've had similar pressure and pain back there for a few weeks--thinking it's pouchitis again so i'm back on cipro. my pain was constant at first and then turned into waves of pain that would come and go, especially later in the day. i had my take down surgery november 1st, so i guess i'm still pretty new to all of this and am still adjusting in a lot of ways. just when i think i've really turned a corner something like this happens and i'm all freaked out, thinking the worst--it's so hard. plus i have 2 small children and my worst fear is that they will have to go through something similar. i make deals with god all of the time, trying to protect them from this--i wish it actually worked that way. thank you everybody for your posts, it's always comforting to hear everyone's stories.
OUCH! I had a very, very tough evening. My butt was on fire. I could not get comfortable and took a few Hydrocodones. If I wasn't travelling on business I may have gone to the emergency room. I noticed when I went to the bathroom it seemed as if the output was green and like stomach bile?

I finally felt better about midnight, and this morning I'm still sore. I'm going to go for a walk to see if I need to move something along or something.

I am hoping that this third day of Flagyl helps!
Update:

When I saw my surgeon he ordered a CT Scan so he could take a look. The found that I had "gas" outside my pouch. Uh-oh. That likely means that I have a leak of some sort or other. He said that this gas can cause painful inflammation and, as Jan put it, likely in the
quote:
Presacral (area) is the pocket between the pouch
. If inflammation was the cause of this pain, holy cow! I consider myself pretty pain tolerant, but this really got my attention!

My surgeon prescribed Flagyl taken with Cipro, I'm sure because of the potential dangers of a pouch leak (?) and I had another follow up CT scan where they put die in the pouch to see if there were any leaks. (As a side note, I was AMAZED how quick and easy this was .. tube in butt, fill up, not much pressure at all, take a quick xray and all done. I easily went to the bathroom) They confirmed with the radiologist that the speedy test showed all the surgeon requested.

The results came back that there was no evidence of abcess, but we're still a bit perplexed about how the gas got there and it probably did originate in some way from the surgeries or pouch. I'm taking flagyl and cipro a week later and feel fantastic .. but we need to keep an eye on it. Of course, I'm hoping the gas disappears forever and all is good. Too optimistic? Smiler Hope not!
Hopefully, this is from a long closed leak. Some bacteria form gas as a byproduct of their growth. These type of bacteria grow outside the presence of oxygen, and often are coliform bacteria (as in: from the gut). Same bacteria that causes gas gangrene from deep puncture wounds. But, if there is o evidence of abscess and the antibiotics are dealing with the symptoms, all is good!

Hi Fellow pouchers- I am the queen of tail bone pain. I went an entire year with a Kiwi size fistula/ Assess that pooled on top of my tail bone that started to form after my take down surgery. My surgeon could not figure out where the leak was coming from and thought it had walled off and was shrinking from all the antibiotics..after many MRI's/CT scans my GI doctor finally did a pouchoscopy which revealed a rare leak at the top of my j-pouch. Usually leakage occurs at the bottom on the pouch around the rectum. I was on Cipro and Flagyal for an entire year not mention a handful of pain meds!!! However what helped me the most was the tush Cush from amazon!!! It's the best 50 bucks I ever spent. If you sit in meetings or drive in your car buy it now...I finally had a third surgery last Jan to fix the leak which instantly fixed the pain however i still have minor sensitivity and never leave how without my tush Cush ...good luck, I feel your pain.
