Hey,

I recently had urgent peri-rectal abscess excision and drainage and have been on pain meds which have caused me to push a little harder during BMs and now I have a large, very painful "tag" (kind of like a hemorrhoid I guess?).

Has anyone dealt with tags before? I've been soaking in the tub for 10-15 mins three to four times per day. I don't even know if I could go to work like this because the pain on and after bowel movements is so intense.

Please help if you can.

Hello, J Moons.

After my reversal I had frequency and output that burned. I developed screaming fissures and a skin tag, also called a sentinel tag or sentinel piles. They come with fissures and frequency. They form at the opening and you can see and feel them. I googled "anal skin tag" and found information on these sentinel tags. One article referred to the tags or piles as "guarding" (sentinel)  the injury that is caused by the fissures and burning. I thought that was funny. I used a sitz bath a few times when it was burning and painful, and sometimes some bleeding. I used water as warm as I could tolerate (very warm) and sat in the little tub on top of the toilet for 10 minutes reading a book. The warm water brings blood circulating to that small area and promotes healing. I bought my sitz bath from Amazon for $15. Just used plain warm water, no salts or anything. The tag eventually grew smaller and has almost disappeared now that my frequency has settled into a manageable five or seven times. My surgeon and the doctor said not to consider surgically removing it because that could cause incontinence and a whole world of other problems.
