Hello-
Merry Chritmas!! I though I would introduce myself to the group. I'm a 30s male with a wonderful wife and 2 great boys, ages 3 and 1. I was diagnosed in Aril 2011 with Ulcerative Colitis. I've been treated with Prednisone, Imuran, Asacol, Colazal, SCD and Paleo diets, Remicade, Humira and now Simponi. Unfortunately, nothing seems to really work, other than Prednisone (which I have been on for the majority of my diagnosis. Last month, my GI told me that surgery is most likely inevitable at this point.

Disappointingly, Simponi does not appear to be working as I started bleeding very badly last night and into today. So that means back to Prednisone to get the bleeding under control and the end of Simponi as an option.

I'm located in the Buffalo, NY area. Are their any surgeons in Buffalo that are recommended or would I be better off traveling to Cleveland Clinic for surgery?

Thanks!

I don't know about Buffalo but if your insurance covers Cleveland Clinic they are highly regarded by many people on the board here and are one of the top rated hospitals to go to for the surgeries. I strongly suggest laparoscopic surgery to avoid adhesions. I had to have an open surgery due to adhesions from prior abdominal surgeries. Please research cuffitis as well. It is rare, please discuss surgical prevention with your potential surgeons.
